... would be an acceptable defense? Smile

I've just bought another bike. Its Like the Buell, and yet it isn't

Arrow They are both very light
Arrow They are both highly tuned
Arrow They both go around corners very well indeed
Arrow They are both physically small with high footpegs
Arrow They both inspire me with cornering confidence I never thought I had! Smile
Arrow They are both very loud Twisted Evil

Its a 1994 Suzuki RGV250! Smile

I realised a short while ago that my TZR250 would not be ideal as a trackday bike. It was in need of a little too much attention and I was uncertain about taking such a classic machine on track.

I thought it would be better if someone who appreciates 80's two strokes, and Yamahas (or both Wink ) were to own the bike. So I sold it to Keith (Kickstart)! Smile

He came along with his trailer, and as luck would have it he was in Reading anyway to pick up his Bandit which he had left at BigCC racing to have some flatslide carbs fitted.

We strapped the bikes to the trailer, and as Keith had his camera, we thought we would take a few Photos of my shiney bikes!

I had a hankering for a two stroke trackbike, as I enjoyed the TZR so much. I wanted as modern a bike as I could afford, so I settled on the RGV. Ally beam frame, USD forks, remote resevoir rear shock and twin disc four pot brakes. All very modern!

The RGV may be similar to the Buell in some ways, but it differs in a lot of ways too. For example, the Buell redlines at 6krpm

https://www.MarJay.co.uk/photos/Buell1.jpg

Whereas the RGV doesn't move until you are slipping the clutch at 7krpm! The Buell has an upright and high riding position with wide bars and pegs which are level with the seat. The RGV is hunkered down and the bars are very low indeed!

https://www.MarJay.co.uk/photos/RGV250Cockpit.jpg

The RGV is a mad little bike. It turns easily and is very stable and yet flickable. On pipe it accelerates like a demon, and actually I seem to ride it at a faster top speed than the Buell!

https://www.MarJay.co.uk/photos/Buell2.jpg

I can't really go faster than around 80mph on the Buell due to the wide bars a previous owner fitted, plus the lack of full fairing. I don't really care because I like my license, however I fitted a double bubble screen to try to make motorway riding a little more comfortable. The Buell and the RGV are both bikes which urge you on, urge you to go faster. They both don't like to be ridden at constant speed and they both have excellent brakes.

https://www.MarJay.co.uk/photos/RGV250-2.jpg

I bought the RGV from a gentleman who resides on the RGV250 forum. He had obviously looked after the bike very thoroughly and his shed was absolutely immaculate. He seemed rather shocked to see G and I load it into his van, particularly when he saw inside the van! Wink He is currently rebuilding an RG500, I assume as a trackbike. When I picked up the RGV he was still a little unsure which fairing to fit to it...

The RGV is in very good condition, but needs a new exhaust end can gasket, as the upper exhaust can is leaking a little

https://www.MarJay.co.uk/photos/RGV250-3.jpg

Overall I am very pleased with both of my bikes. They both have common elements I like, but I also like the extreme differences each has. I like having one bike with an upright riding position and one with a racing crouch. I like having a large four stroke air cooled twin and a tiny two stroke blaster!

https://www.MarJay.co.uk/photos/BuellandRGV2.jpg

Basically, I am a happy man! (skint, but happy! Wink )

https://www.MarJay.co.uk/photos/BuellandRGV4.jpg

I just can't get over how similar the bikes feel, and yet how different they are. They both suit me very well, (especially with both being physically small and light) and they both inspire a cornering confidence that I have never had before. Hopefully I can GMKD on one or another of them soon. I need to book a trackday!!

I can't wait! Smile

I don't think I need to compression test it, because the kickstart tells me all I need to know!

Kick it and you can feel the compression; this is the only two stroke I've ever ridden where the kickstart hits you in the back of the leg!

The powervalves are Aprilia RS250 ones too... Smile
