Just got home and found a letter from the DVLA. It says I've not relicensed my old (stolen) bike.

When the bike was stolen I told my insurance and then waited to see if it would come back. It was found burnt out and was scrapped by a local recovery company.

As far as I was aware that was everything sorted. I paid them just over £100 quid and they would have it disposed of.

I did recieve a leter earlier this year about me not relicensing but it said that it was printed/sent 6 weeks earlier and I could ignore it if I had lost/sold the bike in that time.

I've not rang the DVLA yet, but what should I expect from them? Am I really going to have to pay the £40 fine for having my bike stolen? I understand I might have messed up by not informing them but it's an honest mistake, and the first letter I received only helped to confuse things. Everything so far seems to be very 'guilty until proven innocent'.

Thumbs Down

Rick.

The exact same thing just happened to me last week.

I rang them and told them to stick the fine up their arses, the Police had informed them of the theft, and had spoken to them to find my address from the engine number on the bike. I had rang them and they said to keep the V5 just in case, but it would be kept on file that it had been stolen.

Then a fine appears. Get fucked. Middle Finger

Just read at the bottom:

"If you have disposed of this vehicle you must still pay the penalty mentioned above. You must also complete the statement on the back of this letter."

So I have proof that the bike was stolen, proof it was taken away by a recovery company and disposed of, all before the date the licensing ran out, but am supposed to just pay a penalty for not re-taxing?

Bloody paper work lol Sad

Don't pay it, let them take you to court over it. I bet they don't bother.

I'm not paying it, and thats that.

I got another fine ages ago, I bought a bike on SORN and left it as such for 2 months. They said that I should have re-SORN'd it as I was a new keeper, and simply should have known that I had to as it is mentioned on TV. Rolling Eyes

I told the guy on the phone to shove that up his arse aswell, and that was well over a year ago. Not heard anything since.
