just a quick question for the racers out there, (or in fact anyone who knows); What is the reason for having 1 up five down gearing on race bikes, rather than the usual 1 down 5 up??? Ive wondered about this for a while, anyone able to shed any light?

it makes it easier to change up while leaning over taking a left hander (you don't have to slide your foot underneath the gear lever, you just press down).
