I was giving my chain a good clean with some paraffin today (until rain stopped play Sad ) and it was coming up nice and sparkly.

Some paraffin was getting onto the back wheel so I wiped it with a rag and noticed that my wheel was now nice and clean. It was far more effective than any other product I've used to clean the wheels.

Just wondering what else I can clean with paraffin? I've got a stainless steel exhaust end can, would it be OK to use on that?

Anyone have any experience of using paraffin to clean their bike?

Been using it for ages - great degreaser (cheap too). I'd only use it to remove grease/road grime though, then use metal polish/wax what not to get the finish up.

The only thing I can think of that you might want to keep it away from is the paint work - pretty sure it'll mess that up quite quickly.

Oh, don't use it to clean your eyes - that would be bad Laughing

I use paraffin mixed with cheap washing up liquid in a squirty bottle as a degreaser, works really well.

I wouldn't recomend washing up liquid - it's got salt in it, also may damage paintwork as it's lightly abrasive.

ummm.. Not sure it damages the paint, I shall go and stick some old fairing bits in paraffin to test it.

Would it be ok to use on brake calipers? Just to give them a wipe with a rag with it on?

Didn't say I used it on paintwork, suppose I didn't say I don't either! Like I said I spray it on, I don't rub it in. Just to make it worse I also use a jet washer to clean it off Evil or Very Mad

I've used this for years to clean stuff thats really gunked up, under the engine, bellypans etc, not had any problems. Think you'll find lots of bike cleaners are abrasive anyway.

Still, as always, just because I do it doesn't mean you have to, was just saying thats all.

suppose you could but remember its oil based, won't want to get it on the pads or disc.
