I used to love watching Sharpe back when I was a young lad. They were 2 hour episodes on from 8 till 10pm on Wednesday nights, and it was the only time my mum would let me stay up till 10pm

However I saw a couple of repeated episodes a few years back and they were crap, so I guess the only seemed good at the time because I was too young to know better. The books are far better, as each one is based upon a massive battle which are nearly all brilliantly described and detailed. They simply could not afford to film the battles properly for the television series. This is why the Lord of the Rings films are so good, the battle scenes really are impressive and are done on a massive scale.

For those who liked the sharpe style books try the Simon Scarrow 'Eagle' Series. Based in the Roman Army they are written in the same style and I for one can highly recommend them!

I thought last nights Sharpe was disappointing.....after all that, Sean Bean didnt do owt for me. What a let down.

Looks like theres going to be more tonight too and the second part looks rather interesting than last nights from the preview
