F1 testing day at Silverstone. I've never seen F1 cars in action and I'm hardly likely to spend £100 on a ticket to watch a procession either. Anyway, it's 45 minutes from me so I popped over to have a look (since it was free too). Christ those things shift through the bends (and I thought MotoGP bikes were loud! Shocked ).

Cool pictures.

I would love to go just to get the sound of them, and see the speed, but the races are boring and tickets are way overpriced.

Good pictures though, and its cool you can watch testing for free Thumbs Up

Lifestyle tip. Never remove your earplugs at the start of an F1 GP to 'see how loud it is'.

That *hurt*. Confused

I kind of chuckled to myself when I arrived and saw so many people with ear plugs ("poofs") then I wondered over the bridge as a car blasted underneath and thought my ears were going to implode! Laughing Embarassed

The year I was seated opposite the pits was the bad one, the sound just bounces off the glass front of the building above the garages and wallops straight at you in the grandstand. Quite headache-inducing after a while. Sitting further round in an area with more open airspace was okay without plugs, though the 3M people were still wandering around handing out freebies and making sure the little kids all had some (quite commendable I thought).

On one of the Silverstone trackdays we did, Williams were running a car up and down somewhere in the middle of the circuit. Rather distracting when you're riding round concentrating on your stuff and suddenly there's this VRRRRRNNNEEEEEOOOOOOWWW noise out of nowhere. Laughing

Just like tipping into Redgate at Donington as a 737 passes a couple of hundred feet overhead as it comes in to land as East Midlands Airport! Laughing

Dear christ, you think they're bad try having a 747-400 or the loudest plane ive ever heard the 737-200 go over your house every morning. When i was 7 year old we used to live litrally across the road from Manchester Airports Runway, and from 5-9 it was just constant plane after plane coming into land, the house shook it was deafening Crying or Very sad But still planes are ace 25,000 bhp pumping out Very Happy

You got some great pictures there.

I'd like to go down for the GP practice day, but AFAIK you can only get full weekend tickets.

Are there any more tests there this year?
