Hooligan bike, a bit of a handful to ride, sets off car alarms in a 30M radius...But I love it!

Quite taken by the classic styling, not sure on the drum brakes up front.

Loving the paint scheme Thumbs Up

Ever ridden a bike of that era with hydraulic brakes?

No

Triumph used drums in their hayday on their racing bikes, must be good to some extent. They are unaffected by the wet are'nt they?

Whats the point of having 6 pot stoppies on a 125cc scooter, answer none, so the brakes are suitable for the bike Thumbs Up Still prefer the idea of having the power of discs Embarassed

Drums are perfectly adequate as brakes. Under extended use they fade quicker, but can still be very powerful.

Whosthedaddy, are you under the impression that this is a new bike? Razz

It's 35 years old, but in absolutely beautiful condition! Shocked

Nice one!

Very nice, a well set up twin leading shoe system can perform almost as well as a disk setup.. been outbraked by classics before now Embarassed

I should probably explain this statement a bit more.

Old hydraulic brakes were crap. My '76 cb550 has truly atrocious stopping power, and I'm led to believe that the single disc 750s were no better. The only advantage is that you can easily stick on better modern parts (more powerful master cylinders, steel lines, multi-pot calipers) to substantially improve braking performance. However back when the bikes were made this was obviously not possible, so I reckon disc brakes were introduced mainly for tart factor. Just like alloy wheels and upside down forks on modern bikes.

The speedo went on it late last year, needle return spring broken.
I noticed that there was a NOS one on US ebay, only trouble is it went for $380 + the guy wanted $65 shipping. Confused
Two weeks later another one came up, that went for $571 Sick

I ended up buying a really horrible but working one for $19 and managed to make one good one out of the two. Very Happy

Brakes not all that good at the moment, very weak at speed but grab like hell at walking pace, I'm going to strip them down tomorrow, they should be good when set-up properly.
