My previous job involved lifting of heavy office screens 45 hours a week. I'm now working as a tree surgeon which puts even more strain on my back and have spent the last 8 hours splitting oak wood.

I'm starting to feel like an old man at the age of 18. I plan to ride a sports bike next summer aswell so I need my back in top shape.

Does anyone have some good exercises or stretches to help strengthen up back muscles?

Thanks.

Pilates is good for core stability, therefore helps your back.

if you suffer from a bad back tree surgery will not help but there are things that you can do to keep on going! stretching excercise every morning even when all feels good, .what type of harness do you use? try to useing one with a sliding "D" i would recommend Komet Dragonfly Harness i switch to a sliding D and generally i have few back problems in comparison to when i started and was using a Cresto Sky Max is a good comfy harness for chogging poles but awful for branch walking etc,

welcome to the world of tree work

https://www.buxtons.net/ sell the dragon fly at the cheapest price that i can find worth its weight in gold IMO.

Some advice I was given when I had back problems not long ago was to lie down on my front resting on my elbows for an hour or two whilst watching tv in the evening. I spend most days lugging round things such as tree trunks, telegraph poles, huge stones and all sorts of heavy stuff and on the rare occasion I get any backache, I do this and I'm fine in no time.

Yeah I have the Komet Dragonfly harness. My back isn't too bad, just aches after a hard day now and then. Think I will just have to start stretching every morning to ensure it doesn't get worse.

Thanks for replies.
