The difference with this bike is that it’s only done 11,700miles most of which were done in the last 6 years.

I’ve not found any advertisements for CX’s that have done much under 60,000m so I’m setting a price of £999 simply because it’s worth it.

The bike’s location is Cornwall (nr St.Austell) and can be inspected by potential buyers. It’ll have a years MOT. It’s red, shiny and runs sweetly, the tyres are good and it was serviced about 300 miles ago.

That’s about it, questions and queries can be sent to paleolithic@gmail.com or you can call 08717895781 (during office hours please)

hate to blow your thunder but i have one that has done 9681 miles. i bought it without mot and paid £275 for it.
i'm not saying yours isn't worth what you want for it but throughout the cx club they go for nothing like that.

best of luck anyway, looks a nice example

Yes, up to a point…… the bike was stuck in the back of vintage biker's garage until a friend of mine put it back on the road to commute to work everyday; the mileage in January 2001 was 5949.

Prior to that all the mileage was done by the original owner before it needed an MOT. I don't think the 'vintage biker' ever got around to using it before he died.

When I go in for it's MOT next week I might be able to ask the old boys that run the local garage if they can remember if it's been MOT'd prior to 2000 since they've known all the owners to date.

Thank you! .... but we'd be interested to know what was a fair price for the machine that revolutionised biking (this one being on the road and in really good condition and all). The price is negotiable, and sensible offers are more than welcome!

It's the least used of my fiancé's 4 bikes, and he's decided that if it can be sold for what it's worth then he'll get a learner legal bike and leathers for me! Not bad, says I!

my opinion on a fair price
if the bike is in exceptional condition, no faults, proof of the milage with tax and mot i'd say you could be looking at about £600-£700.
any faults on these bikes then they depreciate a bit i'm afraid.
a point to a buyer, make sure the battery is charging, take a test ride and if it starts bogging at speed then it may need a stator. make sure no water or oil is leaking at the back of the engine. if you go to look at a cx and it rides well, runs as it should then it'll be a joy to ride, if you get one in the condition that this one is in and it runs and rides as it should then you've hit lucky and snap it up as the bikes are great fun and theres a fantastic cx-gl club you can also join at https://groups.msn.com/cxglmcc

have fun and ride safe.

PostPosted: 18:25 - 13 May 2006    Post subject: REGARDING THE MILAGE Reply with quote

HI-there, it's actualy my bike my fiancé is trying to sell, (I said she could put the money toward a bike her size)

We asked at the garage where it was bought new and subsequently resold to the second owner whom the receptionist actually knew before he died
She was kind enough to drag out the archived computer records which go back to 1997 when they first got a computer.
The bike had done just 5 and a bit thousand when they resold it to the second owner, it subsequently had been in for a small oil-leak but the second owner was really not able to put many miles on it because of his age.
I recommend anyone interested in buying the bike to take it on a test ride to the garage where they can inspect the records themselves.

I’m not particularly worried about selling this beast as it’s a really good bike, but if my fiancé is going to ride I need to cut my collection down and this CX500 and the even more ancient 1977 GS750 are the least used and both are far too heavy for her.
If we don't get a resnable offer it goes into dry storage and we'll see what the market is like in 10 years time.

i didnt mean u, i meant the other guy

although i have to admit im amused at the idea of the market picking up in 10 years time, but what do i know

Why Colin1 my dear chap, in ten years it maybe the only cx500 left in original condition and I’m sure there’ll be at least one enthusiast that wants one, but I do thank you for the moral support… I really don’t care what others have paid, I have this bike and if anyone thinks it’s worth it, then they can buy it. I swapped it for a Kawasaki EN450 that had done oodles of miles (I kept taking lumps off the frame when I went around corners so it was a good swap) I just don’t ride enough to warrant 4 bikes on the road.

There is also the 25% higher price that people seem to pay for any vehicle in Cornwall to take in to account, I’ve always found it cheaper to buy up country and best to sell down here.

My fiancé just thought she’d try this CX club to try and hurry things along (May month being perfect biking weather here)

If anyone wants the bike, great… if not, since I just MOT’d it and taxed it…. I’m going to RIDE it!

AH!..... I saw that one while I was pricing mine, a bit of rust fortunately doesn’t seem to affect these old battle horses.
Ta for the pointers….. I guess I’m not expecting a quick sale on this bike, it is after all a very cheap bike to run so I may as well ride it for a while.

Although I accidentally just got choc_strawberry a Dainese race suit today…. So she’s rather impatient to sell so she can choose her own bike.

Good luck with selling it, l,m after a CX500 or simular but am looking for something resonably priced, as another example of selling a classic honda l sold a low mileage mint 1985 CB400N last year and the most l could get for it was £500 and it was a bike worthy of a collection.

i've sold complete sheds of cx's on ebay and an original, low mileage one is well worth it's asking price, i recently sold a v reg one which hadn't been run for 16 years and got £425 because it had low miles but that's all it had going for it--personally i wouldn't advertise a bike on bikechat because of the sad forum bullies who slag off everybody's bike then get in their novas to go and deliver the pizzas

mmmmm a hint of sarcasm only? now aren't you the typical forum bully, see a post, give your opinion which the seller of the cx really doesn't want and automatically, any interested parties feel his bike isn't worth the asking price, for the record, i ride a simple '98 gsx750f, i've got my windle yamaha outfit collecting dust in the garage, 3 cx's in pieces but unlike you my imagination doesn't stretch to a 55 plate megane-i have to suffer my mer sprinter

Sad truth is it will struggle at that price..

If you do want the full asking price you need to put it in classic motorcycle mechanics and used bike guide with a picture

Id pay that if i had it, but then i'm on my second Thumbs Up
