bike stolen

Right going to make this brief but i had my bike stolen last night and am having to claim. A guy at the local bike shop reckons it may be worth my while not claiming and keeping 5 years no claims and transfering my insurance over, so im just wondering if anyone else has had a bike stolen and what sort of figure i should be looking at getting off the insurance company.

Also now i need to decide what bike to get next so any decent suggestions shall be taken on board.

Bike is a cbr400 nc29 and its in repsol colours, stolen from bulwell, nottingham in case anyone sees anything. Reg is H840 XUG

5yrs NCB = 70% discount ,

soo why not put into online insurance things your situation and see how much it goes up by and x5 for 5 years it'll be hefty if you decide to claim and see if this is worth it vs the cost of another bike.

I'd recommend another NC29 , I managed to scum a ride on one the other day , but my heart is set on an NC30/5 when funds allow for it.

Do what I did.

Go to any insurer's online quote system (or several if you have the time). Fill in the details once with 5 years' NCD, and then again with 0 years' NCD and an insurance claim of x amount.

You'll can then weigh the cost of increased premiums over buying another bike yourself.

It will also affect car insurance if you have that was well (no loss of NCB obviously) but a load for theft.

I'd not claim off my insurance as you lose out any way

they will give you what they deam was the bike's market value, which may be good compared to what you got for the bike or in my case it was extremely poor,

you also have to pay excess for theft.

keep the no claims, the insruance savings in the long termwill pay for your loss.

still a bitch though,
hope the bike is recovered

I insured the bike for £1600 as it was easily worth that.

got paid.... £1400 minus excess (£350)
this was dispite plenty of ebay completed listings print outs and bike trader adverts of worse condition machines for more money than we were offered..

Don't panic just yet. Generally speaking if you claim on your insurance you won't lose all of your no claims bonus, you will only lose a percentage of it. So you won't suddenly drop back to zero no claims bonus, you will maybe drop back to 3 years worth of no claims instead. The best thing to do is talk to your insurance company, explain what has happened and see what they say. If you don't want to make a claim then they can't force you too, so you have nothing to lose by sounding them out about your situation.
