So, interesting story...the artist who I got a quote from said this:

"Unfortunately she isn't available today. She has quote that this design will need to be done over two days due to the swelling. 4 hours one day and a feather 4 hours another day. H****** is £80.00 per hour. We do a day rate at £400.00, but H****** said this design is more than a days work. She said she can try and get as much done in a day as she can."

The interesting bit...after that I heard from a mate that he was going to ask an ex-tattooist at work what he thought, because I called BS. It turned out there are two ex-tattooists at his work, one of which actually worked at the studio from which I got the quote above. He also said BS, it's a day's work at max.

So, tattooists, what say ye?

Its a bit more then what I've been quoted before for custom work but I'm up north. 1.5 - 2 days dosen't seem unreasonable either

Seems right to me. After 4 hours of heavy shading on a hand, it's going to be the size of a football. £80 per hour is pretty much the going rate. When you're not in the north anyway!

took just over 4 hrs to do the shading in and around the mouth over 2 days
£250 per day but it was mates rates as I was doing him a favour
and any more than 4 hrs in the one area is as much as you'll be able to do (bleeding etc)

I pay £80/hour rate, and the day rate up here in the North is £650 at the place I go. Don't think I'd handle that in one sitting TBH, and I've sat through 2 x 8 hour blocks recently, one on the inside of my bicep, which was particularly uncomfortable in parts (lots of thick linework). Another 4 hours to go to finish my sleeve, that's just for my elbow and the remaining space in that area, plus some colour and touching up where needed.

Don't forget the time includes the drawing etc generally, it's moot a case of picking a tattoo from a wall and away you go anymore.
