Pretty sure the voltage out of the ballast into the bulb is ridiculously high. I know that the kits are plug and play, and it's almost impossible to fuck it up.......

It really does take all he effort out of bleeding brakes (and potential for mess).

Good job mate.

Funnily enough I was in the same boat 5 years ago, doing the exact same job as you and here's a link to the thread to prove it:

https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=207665&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=25

Such a shame I didn't see this earlier I could have helped you. The timing is a bitch. I found out everything you've found out, could have saved you some hassle.

Don't spend much time on here anymore though.

I sense non IUPAC approved nomenclature. What would this dimethyl carbinol be otherwise known as?

I bet you use the term "oil of vitriol" you luddite. Razz

I certainly hope not! Laughing

based on the suffix -ol it will have at least one alcohol functional group on it, and according to teh internet, carbinol is an obsolete term for any substituted methanol compound (I did wonder why I hadn't come across it). As such, I would expect a widespread epidemic of blindness to sweep those hospital wards in short order.

I'd hazard a guess it would be something along the lines of this:

https://i65.tinypic.com/2zfiaet.jpg

but that doesn't look right at all Thinking.

I call jiggery-pokery, this chemical clearly doesn't exist. Games are afoot.

Laughing That right there is a lovely exemplar of the problem with non-IUPAC names. Only someone who had been imbibing it could think that propan-2-ol was in any meaningful sense a substituted methanol.

If Scotsmen are now equating alcohol with ethanol, suddenly the Independence referendum results make more sense Razz

I used to tie back my brake lever on my old thundercat overnight (not all the way back, just enough for any air to escape into reservoir)

That's the exact opposite of what pulling the lever does. Any movement at all will block off the return hole to the reservoir, otherwise pulling it further would just push fluid the wrong way.

I'm not saying that it doesn't work, I'm saying that it makes no Goddamn sense that it does. Wink
It is a weird science. My understanding is this, (could be wrong) when the lever is pulled back the fluid is compressed with the banjo part near m/c holding the pressure. Over time bubbles will rise to the top stopping at the banjo junction at the m/c. When you release the handle the systems pulls a little fluid back into the resevoir pulling the air bubbles out. I used to either get one big bubble or a few little bubbles and a lovely firm lever.
