that'll be the M4, but you will need to go on M25 to get between M3 and M4...

I'm sure there *must* be better routes...

WE had looked at going on the A4, but the M4's a whole lot more direct.

Directions to my place to follow in a bit.

hmmm... A4 seems just as direct... other than any traffic lights/ roundabouts on it Sad

Erm, I'd advise against the A4, unless you fancy a proper "rideout"...it's a generally nice road, but for actually getting somewhere for a purpose, if you know what i mean Smile...it's also not particularly nice in the dark Confused

Craig: from what I can gather from the map, it seems to be logical for you to go off the M3 at Basingstoke, and then go along the A33, then join the M4 WESTBOUND, then come off the M4 at the next junction (12)

And all the towns, it's not so bad past newbury, but you've got to actually get through Newbury. It's pretty much on M4J15, so you have to go up the A346 from the A4.
I'm not *too* bothered, but I can see it reasonably taking twice as long with the traffic in Newbury at that time, plus the various other towns etc.

yup...

Its a v. easy ride, and some v. fast bits of road... the A33 Swallowfield dual carriage way Twisted Evil

Yeah, I've riden from reading to slough on A4... not the easiest of rides I've ever done Sad

Can't say i've ever riden it at night

How to get to mine (via motorway)

Turn off towards reading from J12 on the M4 (this will be turning right if you're coming from London direction.)

Go past the two roundabouts unitl you come to a *big* traffic-lighted cross roads.
Turn left, then immediatley left again (a U turn basically)
Take the first right and I'm just up the road on the left. I'll leave a bike out so you know which house (i'm the door on the right hand side, number 6)

https://80.3.252.92/rpics/map.gif
note the roundabout in the map is now a big cross roads with traffic lights (5 lanes across)

I was thinking last night...it might be easier for you to meet us at the mini-moto place craig... though obviously it's up to you 'cos it doesn't make any difference to us.

Craig: I will ride from Basingstoke to G's with you.

I hate to have to say this, but I *might* not be going now. My dad might well be going up to Burnley to see his mum, who is ill in hospital, and if he is, im gonna be going as well.

Craig: The route that you've proposed takes you to the centre of Reading ( Question ), and not near G's house...Confused

Looking at the map, there doesn't seem to be a "direct" (i.e. Motorway) route to the mini-moto place, so it's probably advisable that you follow the G Posse down Smile...also, it's not particularly easy to find the Arena in the dark...

The mini-moto Arena is actually in Wroughton, and no-where near Swindon (ok, technically it is "near"), so you don't need to navigate through the hell-roads of Swindon Smile

If craig's coming on his own and going on motorways then it's simple enough... just go onto the m4 at J11 then come off at j12 and follow the directions ^up there^
