You say that but I did buy some... or more accurately shares in a Uranium mining company (which is about as close as you can get to commodity trading for radioactive isotopes on the NYSE.)

Mission Impossible 7

You know what you're gonna get with a MI flick, and this doesn't disappoint.
Cool stunts, decent funnies, decent acting, car chases.

7.9/10

Guardians of the Galaxy 3. 6/10

It was alright. As usual Drax had all the best lines. The villain hammed it up way too much for my taste but I was
somewhat surprised they let a black bloke be the baddie, this is Disney we're talking about. It felt like I somehow
missed an episode 2.5.

The missing pieces will be in Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame.

I went and saw this today, enjoyable, thought it had vibes of Days Of Thunder. Good though, yep; 8/10 all day long. You need to see it on a big screen ideally.

First half felt rushed but overall I thought it was very good. The cast smashed it.

5/10 - I didn't like it. Far too dragged out with loads of irrelevant content. Made a 15 because of some tiny boobs in a completely irrelevant storyline/subplot. Glad I lied about my 13 year olds age.

That being said... there were enough vacant stares and 'expected' good performances to see it contend for an oscar.

The 1980 BBC series Oppenheimer is on iPlayer - Sam Waterstone playing Oppenheimer.

I enjoyed watching it way back then.

Last Night in Soho 7/10

Could have been better.
I really only enjoyed this one, because it was set in a London I *almost* still recognised.

Mostly it was set in modern times but with flashbacks to the 60s with a groovy Sandie Shaw/Cilla type of soundtrack. But there was still some of that Soho left when I first moved to London in 1984, and it was eminently recognisable and reminded me even a little bit of when I first arrived, very green and starry eyed. So it provided quite a bit of nostalgia, not even back to the 60s (when in fact I was still a very small child believe it or not).

The problem is that the storyline was a bit ... tired. It was portrayed as being a film noir/horror and certainly there were some quite good attempts at shock-horror-stabby-grabby-zombie stuff, intermingled with trippy psychedelia.

But in parts it is strangely wooden - the only reason I even gave it 7 is because I have a serious crush on Matt Smith, who typically plays a charmer but ultimately a sleazebag pimp.

The dolly-birds are played by Anya Taylor-Joy, always worth a perve if you like a slutty almond-eyed blonde, and that cute little kiwi pixie Thomasin McKenzie, and they are supported by Rita Tushingham and Diana Rigg - both showing their age rather badly ... but then so am I Laughing

And Terence Stamp is still pretty gorgeous for an old guy Wub

But I suppose it took me out of my slump for a few hours Rolling Eyes

The Dicator

Release date review, 2012 - total trash

Current day? Staggeringly distasteful and therefore hilarious Wink

Old Dads 4/10

I swear I would have punched that headmistress.
It improved slightly when they went to Vegas on a boys' weekend, but not much.
He still ended up pussying out anyway. Rolling Eyes

Most of the way through it I thought the lead was Simon Pegg putting on an American accent but apparently it wasn't Rolling Eyes ... it only gets four points cos the black guy dad was pretty hot Wub

Planes, Trains and Automobiles. 9/10.
I'd only ever seen random clips of it in the past but I've just finished watching it in full.

An absolute laugh out loud classic.

The Robocop series. First one looks pretty cheesy and dated now but Robocop 2 has aged like fine wine. I doubt if the third outing will be up to much though. After that lot I will be checking out the 2014 remake.

First one is still my favourite. I still have the OCP T-shirt - got it for a dollar. One tech company having a monopoly.. as if!

The remake is more polished but the way things moved in the 80's and earlier (see Harryhausen) made them inherently more interesting and scary to a once young Daddystu.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One

i enjoyed this film more than i was expecting.
not a fan of the series myself but the wench likes them.

was a bit weird watching the car chase scenes around Rome and all the streets are deserted. filmed during lock down i guess.

Funnily enough I was going for a Mission Impossible film marathon next, starting with the 1996 reboot of the franchise.

Still on Robocop at the moment. No.3 is obviously shite after the brilliance of the previous two... which leant into the "video nastie" vibe of the times whereas this last one's more panto Sad

It was a good movie but I think the AI thing is a bit cheesy and overdone these days and I completely lost track of who had the keys half way through Laughing . Not a fan of two part movies though, it felt like I watched half a movie and it's not really a story that needs it.

Robocop (2014) is an entirely different beast to the earlier films. Some aspects remind me of Gamer (2009) but ethics (or lack thereof) are front and centre throughout the film.

Not exactly a great film but an important one.

Without mentioning one film in particular, may I draw your attention to a film channel, “Talking Pictures TV”, free to air.

TPTV shows old stuff, films and TV. Highlights in the last week include

A Prayer for the Dying
The Falcon and the Snowman
Suspiria
Ben

There’s loads of film noir as well as old public information films. On certain nights, Caroline Monroe (older BCFers will recall their crush) introduces Cellar Club with classic horror and B movies.

They’re even showing Crown Court, remember that? I used to watch it while home from school for lunch!

Something for everyone. You’re welcome Thumbs Up
