I note, too, how many grumble about road~salt and cleaning?!? Rolling Eyes

Have you noticed that if you don't get cowshit off the tyres, the enzymes in the stuff start to 'eat' the rubber?

Typical event takes six hours. at the end of which, you can barely stand, let alone struggle to shove bike on trailer... knowing when you get home, you have probably an hour or more of post even de~prep, stood in the freezing waving a hosepipe about, up to your elbows in slime, getting it out of all the nooks & crannies.. before you can go have a hot bath!!!!

It's an arse ache I'll admit. I don't mind the actual riding in shitty weather, I'm quite happy all tucked up in my own space. It's the ritual cleaning that gets you down. Simple things when it's sub zero like the hose pipe is frozen or you've had to turn the outside tap off to stop it freezing the pipes mean you just can't be arsed with rinsing it down every other day.

That and getting older doesn't help, I think that's just getting more tired and cranky.

All said and done though, flicking the ignition is still the best part of my day.

I've been commuting almost around 50:50 bike-car since about Nov. Car because a water hose burst on the bike after it got too friendly with the engine case, for example.

But when it was snowing, it was nice to have something with 4 wheels.

I find if I've been driving for a week; jumping back on the bike, even if it's a bit damp and drizzly, feels great. The power, the wind in my vagina .... filtering!

Bike is my only transport and as I like having a job and therefore money to spend on bike parts I just have to suck it up.

There's not a chance you'll get me out for shits and giggles if the weather is less than good though. I do enough shit weather commuting.

Saying that as long as it's not icy then as long as your kit is up to it there's little reason to pussy foot about and not enjoy the bike if you have to be on it.

There was a guy on the motorway the other day riding what looked like a 250 or max a 400, with the thinnest wheels on it ever. And then it started hailing it down. Felt so sorry for the poor b*st*rd!

i passed my test a month ago and ive managed to get out about 7/8 times for long rides. anywhere close to 0 degrees though or high winds like today (getting blown across the motorway in the car was not fun so couldnt imagine being on the bike) and ill just bail.

Plenty of time in summer to enjoy the roads

Made me think. I ride so infrequently (commute 2x week sometimes) that I just enjoy the fact I can ride, so I guess the answer must be yes.

However, I much prefer cycling in crappier weather, God knows why.

I'm also going to go out on a limb and assume he lives in Wales, which means if he didn't enjoy riding through sheet rain and howling gales the riding season would be very very short Laughing

I can' remember the last time I made it in and out of Wales without getting absolutely washed away even in the middle of summer.

I must live in a different Wales to you lot then. Yes, it rains, but it's not exactly monsoon rain where the entire contents of the sky drop at once. A bit of drizzle is perfectly normal, and not challenging to even basic kit.

Ahh today was more like it. Eight degrees and the sun out.

Had to pick an iPad up from some office in central London for work, so was out of the office for a bit... Obviously jumped on the bike and took the long way around Laughing Thumbs Up

Only have bike at the moment but the public transport around here is more practical than riding most of the time.

Didn't ride in December but mostly because the bike was 200 miles away.

I don't mind riding in shitty weather tbh. Since getting the 929 I've had the most find since having the drz400. I ride it about the same too so that helps.

If I'm not excessively cold, or wet through, then time on a bike is better than not on a bike Smile

Having tyres that cope well with winter keeps my butt hole from chewing through the seat.

There are some good things about winter. You can sometimes go faster than in the summer because there is far less traffic at weekends and fewer people with ray guns + cameras during the week.

It depends on the nature of the ride.

I'd probably go further and say it depends on the nature of 'going outside'.

Being out in bad weather is a pain in the arse if you're doing jobs. Going to the supermarket and coming back dripping wet and having to warm up and keep clothes seperate from anything nice in the house.

If you're going out with the explicit purpose of leisure (going for a walk in the rain, hiking, ride out to let off some steam etc) I often enjoy the sensation.

I generally try to play mental games and pretend I'm out on a womble but when you're bound to get from A to B within some reasonable period of time it doesn't really work that well Laughing

If you buy the right stuff this is completely avoidable. A lot of the best clothing is also cheap.

Perhaps you can avoid being soaked through, but I'm not sure how I'd avoid being covered in road grime that drips off on my nice carpet.

I've heard the other half have 'wet rooms' for such a purpose.

If its REALLY wet and horrible - I am forced by the better half to enter the house through the garage and hang my stuff up there until it has sufficiently dripped all the crap off.

Then I am allowed to bring it in and hang it near a radiator.

Even on the worst monsoon ever its normally all dry within a couple of hours (half decent textile jacket and trousers).

My scarf takes the longest to dry normally so I have many many scarfs dotted around various locations I might ride to (parents house / work / etc.)

Weeks like this current week are amazing, 8-10 degrees / sunny / dry roads. Didnt even need the heated grips this morning. Thumbs Up

Might take mine out tomorrow, weathers supposed to be decent. Thumbs Up Double figures and dry they say. Wheeled it
out of the shed yesterday and started it up. Also refitted the hugger that's been off of it for a few weeks, I fitted
a CF extender piece to it a while back and hadn't got round to putting it back on, really suits the bike I think. But mainly
it was just an exercise to socialise the pup with it because it's quite loud. I have no pressing tasks tomorrow
beyond walking the dog either. Smile Really looking forward to a blat, have new black visor to try out as well if it's bright.

Ive yet to ride on a proper warm day having started back in december :p... But i hate it yes... I agree with mike though, this time of year you get some amazing sunsets and light you simply dont get in summer. Its lovly and feels good. However, i really hate painfully frozen, on the edge of frost bite fingers when its 5 or bellow. Even with under liner gloves... When i get a proper bike might considder heated grips.

That pic of a bike after one week riding, my bike looks much worse after one day than that. The mud on the roads, the perpetual wetness... That i hate. I would love it to be dry and warm and go into a bend feeling more confident about going at a speed above 20 :p
