handed over £100 for the Zontes that has been knocking around my garden for a few weeks as mentioned in my sig. Shocked

and SORN'd said Zontes.

Me and some mates will attempt to get this back on the road with a minimum amount of cash being spent on it. Laughing

Replaced spark plugs and caps on the fazer to get rid of a crap 'low down power issue'

eBay NGK standard plugs and new caps in red because faster

Worked a treat, no plugs snapped in half, and no more slipping the clutch at 6k revs to get going at the lights. Thumbs Up

Bargain! Let us know if it ends up being any good, or completely awful...either way.

Removed the headlamp grill because, as I expected, one of the legs broke due to vibration last night.

Yesterday - broke down in rural France.
Today - eventually been recovered to a dealership in the nearest town.

The joys of motorcycle ownership!

Finally fitted passenger grabrail to the Spacker, It's only been in the shed waiting to be fitted since last Christmas...
But minor mods had to be made as it was actually for a boggo MT09 and didn't quite fit mine without some fettling.
So I had to cut a flange off of some top hat spacers, hacksaw a small piece of my numberboard brackets to allow fitment.
Also so that I can remove it and return the bike to OEM I bought a spare numberplate bracket so I could drill out the welded
in studs to allow for the nuts and longer bolts that come with the grabrail. Once drilled I had the bracket powdercoated
so it was glossy black to match the grabrail and a bit more resilient to rear wheel upchuckings. The original bracket on my
66plated bike is already showing signs of rust, and it's barely seen rain.

Since Wales the speed triple has been getting harder and harder to start with a 'clack' ing sound getting worse and worse. Research suggests a full replacement of the starter sprag clutch which has been modified by triumph. Didn't particularly want to spend out £400 in parts so took it apart and had a look to see what's wrong.

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20170822_202834_zps1k5uxpuk.jpg

So there's a loop spring that holds the sprag things in place, which is no longer tight or round. Triumph obviously do not sell the spring so I popped down to a car parts place and got the chap at the counter to open a load of oil seal boxes till I found a suitable spring. Fitted a slightly thicker but much tighter one. Fitted new gaskets on the covers and she now fires up quicker and better than ever.

The fork seals have also got increasingly bad until a few weeks ago when I decided that it's time to get them done. I bought genuine triumph ones along with oil whilst getting the above gaskets. Never done fork seals before but figured it can't be that hard...

https://i256.photobucket.com/albums/hh163/adam673673/Mobile%20Uploads/20170824_173208_zpsgdg4na3v.jpg

Had to get a new socket and set of spanners and use a lot of inguinuity.

The front seems a lot plusher than it did which could be the old fork oil could have been thicker (it was pinkish so not the triumph stuff) or just a placebo effect.

The result is a bike that starts properly with no leaky forks.

Total cost about £75 compared to the £700 I guess triumph would have charged.

Took 3 short ish evenings.

First evening I got the sprag clutch off then got parts the day after.

Second evening I put the sprag clutch back on and took the forks off. Got one half done then needed a 32mm socket to undo the second fork which I didn't have, so had a beer.

Finished this evening.

My first naked and servicing and repairs are so much less hassle.

More time in the shed this morning. Went to Fowlers and collected my new rear shock and spring unit for the scoot,
took more time figuring out how to get the plastics off of the thing Rolling Eyes than it did to change the shocker.
Still it should feel a bit better to ride than before, original unit is 4 years and 23000 miles old. It's had a good innings,
I think a few two up runs was the last straw that blew the seal. And no the Mrs isn't a jabba. Laughing

Oil and Filter change - Far more effect than I thought, so the old oil had probably been in there for a long time.

Removed battery reading 4V. Running recovery mode on charger, but I'm doubtful. If it works for a few days until the new one arrives, we're good.

Ordered headlamp (corroded reflector), aforementioned battery, and a downpipe from a different bike using the same/similar engine. Hopefully I can bodge on a different endcan.

Found a leak on the oil cooler - Looking for a suitable replacement, Originals are nowhere to be found.

Mates came round for bacon butties, and we looked at the bike, and the dog helped.

After much deliberation, we decided to shove it in for an MOT and see if it passes, consensus is that it will pass, we will put a new filler cap on the tank first, then clean the bike up a bit and sell - and if fails, see what it fails on and assess next steps - it's all about keeping the cost to a minimum.

Plan to take bike apart in friends workshop clean it up and sell it.

Stupidly narrow passageway, I took the gate off at the end of the passage to get it in, D'oh! We just took the bar ends off to get it out again.

Handy little tow hitch to take the bike away.

edit: oh and going through the documents, looks like this bike has had 3 owners, most of the miles put on by first owner. Some receipts include "glass missing from front brake resevoir, oil held in by laminate" Shocked

Then we turned attention to mates GPZ which appeared to be "a little bit on fire" when it arrived. Question Heat seems to have melted part of belly pan!

I'm borrowing this bike in a fortnight to ride to Fareham on.

Hiya

Decided to look at the not too smooth throttle cable on the Cagiva. The outer at the throttle end was a bit dodgy, and the splitter section wasn't looking great. Swapped it for a spare 2nd hand cable. Somewhat smoother now.

Will get a new splitter section and make up a new throttle end cable.

Afraid that is standard when people fit 2>1 systems. Normal fix is to stick a couple of washers between the belly pan rear mounts and the belly pan to space it down a bit.

All the best

Isn't yet, will be booked in after my friend gets back from Stormin the Castle.

I ride down to Fareham regularly as my dad lives near Locks Heath, nearly always stop at Loomies, probably set off just before midday on Thursday after next.

Ah, those will be the infamous Sandy Bike Spares downpipes, or Black Widow Exhausts, or whatever they're calling themselves this week.

They do all do that, sir, and fvcks given by the manufacturer trend towards zero. You'll have to shim out the belly pan and/or fit a heat reflecting panel, leave it off, or just cut a hole in it where it's melting.
