Came accross this quote from Motorcycle News 8)

Quote!

"There he is, circulating your favourite roundabout atomising his kneesliders, when all of sudden he becomes alert to your unfamiliar sound. A droning noise, varying in pitch and coming closer on his offside. A tiny flash of colour, the briefest glimpse of a single sided swingarm and you’re gone; off hunting for more big bore bikes to humiliate. Nope, no matter how much he tries to convince himself it was a stray RC30/45 he knows in his heart of hearts – he’s been done by a VFR400."

hi
Dude, so true, alot of the people on bigger bikes are about 50 od and plod along on there brand new Gixer 1000 at about 20 miles an hour. I did a bloke on a duke round the outside once, of course he did me on the stright (byebye ducatii). Went to cunt'ies (continental motorcycles) to get a paddock stand and there was a bloke there couldn't have been under 45 years old buyin a brand new 2001 kick ass short wetting new R1. Dont get me wrong he's probably an ausom rider, but from what i here most born agains arn't. I was speaking to another guy on a duke 996 (old geezer), whod bin riding for a year, an he was asking ME how to get your knee down, dude sort it out.I felt a bit embarisssd tellin him to lean of more ect Embarassed

Yea so right Luke,

When U get time ask Zimma, G, Ctyson18, Chris and the gang
about my age!! Smile

Perhaps I'm the exception to the rule, but I take your point, and
on the whole agree. However my neighbour is about my age and
has a Duke 998 and rides it like a mad twat, he's one guy I
would not go on the back of! I'l have to try stuffing im on our
local roundabout Twisted Evil

C'mon then :)...

I've never actually got my knee down... something to do with not having leatheres & sliders (well that's me excuse anyway)

Someone I know on a MZ overtook a R1 on the outside (o a trackday, and it was a 'racing-spec' MZ though)!

Smaller bikes are always going to do better in the corners but big bikes can usually bugger off on the straights, which I like :). In various magazines I have seen a few CBR400s with the 600 engine and even one with a fireblade engine, which could be interesting.

On people that get new big bikes and ride them slowly:
IMHO this is a pretty good thing 'cos:
It gives a better impression of bikers to the non-bikers... If everyone rode around way over the speed limit all the time we would be in serious trouble. If some people get big bikes and ride them sensibly all the time it means I can probably get away with riding stupidly for a bit (?) more of the time.
Hopefully it should also mean that there will be plenty of very good condition secondhand bikes out there for when I can actually get insured on something ridiculously fast.

Laughing Too true Mole mate. Smaller bikes like 125's, 250's & 400's can just cream the larger bikes around the bends.
example: Last night I went for a ride around my favourite roundabouts. So there I was getting a few laps in on a oval-shaped beauty when I hear a loud race pipe behind me.....
Glance over my shoulder and see a nice gixer 600 knee down behind me. Very Happy ........so I thought I'd show him my sparkies 8)
Well we went round a fair few times and after a while he pulled over for a chat. Turns out he couldn't believe it was a 125.
"F*ckin 'ell" he said "That thing goes down easy don't it?"
I saw that he really had to give it a shove to get it leant over and stay there whereas mine just plopped on it's side easy as pie. Very Happy

G, Thought U might like this other MCN Quote!!!!!!!

Advise given to new owners of the NC30 Laughing

"What you will have to get used to when you own this bike though, is a high pitched and incessant whining. Usually most noticeable on track days… " Yeah you came past me but my Blade/R1 etc…normally I’d whip your butt, but today my tyres, suspension, head is wrong and that VFR is too blah, blah, whine, whine…. " . Just live with it."

But the problem is.. if you ride like a twat ALL the time on a big bike you ARE gonna have an accident at some point.. is it worth the risk?? The fun part of a smaller bike is that you can thrash it at a lower speed and still get all the fun!! Anyway, surely if you have the same rider on a blade then a vfr there cant be any doubt the blade is a much more capable bike??!!

Sorry if I sound like an old fart but I value my life!!!! hehehe! Very Happy

I've never tried to lean my bike over as much as poss, but my boot's hit the floor before i've reaslised it! it scared my girlfriend who was on the back at the time! I doubt i'll ever be of the pure sports type but i do want a VTR firestorm when my finances allow it. thing is with my bike i dunno what my tyres can take, i know metzler's are a good make but my bike's old! one day i'll fold my mirrors in an find a large amound of car park and see what it can do. if it does go down it'll just damage the surface!
I do ride like a nutter, but only when it's safe to do so and I'm in the right mood.

Havnt got any part of the anatomy down yet, only when i fell of my DT50. I had the carp 12 year old original tyres when i bought it, not exactly confidence inspiring when the front wheel skids.
Got me new battalaxes SS and they seem to grip really well, but the roads have been a bit wet recently, ill try getting me knee down soon....promise....

last sunday on the way to box hill: -

theres a road that goes from the a3 up hill to a large carpark where bikes meet before going to box hill. i pulled out and had 2 old blokes (1 on a super blackbird the other in a duke 998) kut me off so i started to pull up behind them and they both saw me and started doin things like overtaking me 1 handed etc etc. this is on a bit of new tarmaced road about 10 miles long very twisty very nice any way i took them both on the same tight right hander i think i was going about 10mph faster round each bend bye the end of the road i was stoped by traffic lights and i tok them a good 5 mins to catch up.

hehehe the guy on the honda was well pissed off and ignored me but the guy on the duc said well done Razz
