How can you get chain grease off the rims/ spokes of a the back wheel, I've tried using elbow grease that didn't move it, yesterday the Guy in the local bike shop sold me something called wonder wheels, My wheels are red painted I think, any body experience of that stuff?

Also he said I should de grease the chain before applying new grease, sold me stuff for that too. Is that what your supposed to do, anything I should look out for?

Yeah any degreaser will do it e.g. gunk, then spray with a hosepipe. Or as above WD40, does the same soort of job and is cheaper Razz

Fine on paintwork, but don't use WD40 on an O ring chain.

All the best

Just don't use it on the chain.

WD40 dries the O rings out in the chain.

Personally I use paraffin to clean my wheels or any other bits where chain grease etc gets.

Just be carefully if you use wd40 you don't get it on your tyres.

I use Wonder Wheels for my bike and girlfriends car wheels. It cleans both alloy and steel rims. It's really good stuff - basically dissolves brake dust, finds oil\chain wax a bit tougher but just leave it on for a bit or use a stiff wheel brush.

You can get it in Halfords.

WD40 is no where near a good enough lubricant for a bike chain.

There are lots of different chain lubes you can use, some stick better than others. Basically just use what you can get hold of easy.

I use a ceramic chain wax type, it doesn't fling off but it is expensive - but since I dont do a great deal of miles thats ok for me.

You can use engine oil, but it will fling off very easy so you will have to re-lube your chain a lot more frequently.

You dont have to clean your chain every time you lube it up, though I do give my chain a good clean every now and then.

I clean my chain using an old paint brush and paraffin, then rinse it off, then reapply the lube.

If you go out on you're tyres and think there may be wd40 on them take care watch for slippy parts of the roads and be careful cornering then it should wear off pretty quickly.
