Yeah any degreaser will do it e.g. gunk, then spray with a hosepipe. Or as above WD40, does the same soort of job and is cheaper |

Just don't use it on the chain.
WD40 dries the O rings out in the chain.
Personally I use paraffin to clean my wheels or any other bits where chain grease etc gets.
Just be carefully if you use wd40 you don't get it on your tyres. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

I use Wonder Wheels for my bike and girlfriends car wheels. It cleans both alloy and steel rims. It's really good stuff - basically dissolves brake dust, finds oil\chain wax a bit tougher but just leave it on for a bit or use a stiff wheel brush.
You can get it in Halfords.

WD40 is no where near a good enough lubricant for a bike chain.
There are lots of different chain lubes you can use, some stick better than others. Basically just use what you can get hold of easy.
I use a ceramic chain wax type, it doesn't fling off but it is expensive - but since I dont do a great deal of miles thats ok for me.
You can use engine oil, but it will fling off very easy so you will have to re-lube your chain a lot more frequently.
You dont have to clean your chain every time you lube it up, though I do give my chain a good clean every now and then.
I clean my chain using an old paint brush and paraffin, then rinse it off, then reapply the lube. ____________________ The BCF's very own Party boy! Though he's getting old and feeling it!

Is that not a good idea either? Just in case theres some wd40 lurking on them, think ill just go cover the bike in lard and try riding it. |
