I went to fill up with petrol this morning and when I went to pay I told the cashier that there was a lot of diesel on the ground by the pump.

He laughed and said "I know".

I said "I'm sure you know, but could you arrange to have it cleared up?"

He got a bit ragged around the edges, until I pointed out to him that my paint job costs about £650 a litre for the paint and that if I dropped my bike, he'd be paying for it!

Where was it? If anyone else is passing they could keep nagging until he does something about it...

Did you make sure that your complaint/request was officially logged.

It would be dreadful if somebody slipped on it and hurt themselves, they might have to sue the company. Rolling Eyes

The petrol station is in Camden in London.

I almost hope that someone does slip on it (not wishing an innocent any harm, of course!) because then they will have to do something about it!

I had a different experience the other week, I stopped for petrol and the pump wouldn't start. Then the bloke at the cash desk told me to take my helmet off before he would turn the pump on...WTF!

It was only 6:30 in the evening not 2am, and would I really ride off for £9 of petrol?

I was so pissed off I got back on the bike and pulled all the nozzels out of the pump and left them on the floor before I rode off. Never stopping there again.

Nice one.

Now they'll really want to respect bikers Smile.

Also, to be fair, I tend to expect fuel spilt on the floor in petrol stations.

If you want to get annoyed with some one, ask for contact details for the manager, rather than the £4.75ph till worker that doesn't care or have a reason to care.

I am always over filling with petrol so it ends up leaking under my bike. I know it is a hazard, but can it really be avoided in a petrol station?

With due respect at least our local Tesco garage put sand on the patches. Smile

I always take my lid of when I get to stations anyway and put it on the floor, it doesn't really take *that* long to take it off does it?

G - I don't mean to be argumentative, but I have to disagree with your comment re. the employee who gets paid £4.75 per hour - that's not the point, the point is they're employed to do a job and in this case their job is to make sure the forecourt is safe and clean, etc., etc., I don't go for this bullshit of 'the poor guy / gal only gets £-.-- an hour - why the hell are they doing the job then, if you don't like it, get another!!!!!!!!!

My point was, that on £4.75 an hour, they don't care at all and more likely to get a dislike of bikers and think 'arehole' than actually decide to clean anything up.

However if you talk to a manager or someone with some responisibility, they at least should hold some responsibility for employing people that don't care about their jobs.

Sorry, I got my own story wrong, it wasn't that I had to take my lid off (although that is annoying), it was the fact that I had to pay for my fuel in advance!

Yes, I know I shouldn't have dropped the nozzles, but at least he had to come out of his cosy shop to put them back again!

Is that the one on Chalk Farm Road opposite the market? Years ago I went there on my old scooter and turning in slowly the front wheel slipped. I did manage to keep it upright just and complained! The guy just shrugged his shoulders.

A petrol station to avoid!

That's standard, bike or car, for many fuel stations late night. Compnay policy after they lost lots of money from people running I presume.

Exactly... so the next time he see's a bike coming, he'll maybe hassle them even more.

I used to work in a Starbucks on a fairly low wage. The people that annoyed me got annoyed back much more... I know how it works Smile.

thats a disgrace tintin, you should have made an official complaint, especially as i presume all the car drivers werent having to do it. Just one more example of anti bike people who need s a good smack... I thikn the law should do more to protect us from anti bike discrimination, but the law tends to hate us as well...we stuck between a rock and a hard place it seems.

You should take your lid off when you go petrol station, car drivers don't wear them so they don't need to take anything off.

Depending on the petrol stations some know people that do runners so tend to look for them and if you got a lid on they cant tell who you are so they won't let you have any petrol, these tend to be the family run private places and not many of them around anymore.

I've been riding for over 2 years now and I've never had this problem, I've never been asked to take my lid off in a petrol station nor have I just 'gone and done it'. I've never had to pay before I pump either.

I would resent having to do it as well, I am not a criminal so I do not expect to be treated like one. I think it's called customer service.

Then again, I live in Surrey and Southampton (when I'm with the girlfriend), is it just a London thing?

I've been riding about 4 years and have only ever had one problem at a petrol station. The pump didn't start and the attendant came out to me and told me that I had to get off the bike before I could fill. When I asked why he said it was the law - when I replied that it wasn't he went on to say that 'er, its company policy' - he had no answer when I told him that it wasn't company policy at any of the other BP stations I'd been to. If the particular station wasn't at a motorway services and I'd not been pretty short on fuel at the time I would of ridden off. However, I didn't really have much choice.

Yer the lid off thing is for recognition and security, i'll do it if they ask, if they dont ask, i'll keep it on. Flip visor up though.

I appreciate it alot when sand is put down Thumbs Up , but i always come to expect fuel spillages in and around petrol stations. One of the perks of riding.

Do not put it on the floor!!!! By all means remove your lid if you want, but I ONCE put my helmet on the floor at a petrol station. That evening I was very sore and itchy around my chin and neck.

Upon investigating I'd put it down and some diesel had soaked into the bottom of the lining, an hour of riding and it had then soaked into my skin. A few days with a very nasty rash and a helmet that I didn't dare wear again. Why do you think there are plastic gloves next to the diesel pumps??
