SWIM decided to take the wrap for a spouse's speeding offence (38 in a 20). They took the rap because their spouse already racked up 6 points, and given runs a key social service job, they thought it best to let them not risk losing their licence so they can continue with the long motorway journey to work and school-runs.

The Police letter read that an awareness course could be taken in lieu of fixed penalty points. SWIM took the wrap on this basis. What a moron if you ask me. I wouldn't have been so stupid.

The letter arrived notifying of a Single Justice Procedure, it did not offer a speed awareness course. This Samaritan faces up to 6 points, a ban, and/or fine. This idiot has a clean licence since obtaining it decades ago.

To attempt to change liability, in my view, is an admission of perverting the course of justice - not a good idea. I've told SWIM to bite their lip and reap what they have sown.

A gesture of love/support severely backfired. My take-away from SWIM's experience is never take the wrap for someone else. let people learn from their errors and face accountability - including the moron who took the wrap for their spouse's driving offence.

If only SWIM was as smart and wise as I am.

38 in a 20 and "they" thought it would be an awareness course? Laughing

Also, if your job relies on having your licence, it's probably best you don't drive like a total knob... Pissses me off when you read of these people with 50-60 points on their licence cos their job depends on it. Should have thought of that 5 offenses ago mate.

We all gathered that, what he meant was the person who actually did the speeding should be a bit more circumspect with their license if its vital to their job etc.

Speed awareness for 38 in a 20.

that made me chuckle.

Indeed - you might want to remind her what happened to Chris Huhne and Vicky Price a few years ago:

Someone Who Isn't Me

Internet speak for "It definitely was me, but I think I can use this as a defence if someone finds it on the open internet"

I've been watching too much Star Trek, where the abbreviation SWIMW means She Who Is My Wife (as the Vulcans like to say).

Anyway, they are both morons.

Nearly double the speed limit and yet someone who isn't you thought they'd get to do a speed awareness course for what's the equivalent of getting caught doing 133 on a motorway? Rolling Eyes

Someone with six points driving in that way clearly doesn't want to risk losing their licence, it's obvious how much they value their license and appreciate how screwed they'd be without it.

Better hope no one looks at the photos or video of the incident. Laughing

They can look forward to being fined 75% to 125% of their weekly income as well as being banned for 7 to 28 days or receiving between 4 and 6 points.

Who is the registered keeper of the car?

"Almost double the speed limit" I can see the offending party thinking they were just going a tad fast in a 30mph zone as these 20mph pop up in all sorts of places and aren't "proper" speed limits. And then the offender sold the feeling they weren't really going fast to their other half. Not justifying anything here just making a guess on how things went down Smile

Thinking back to when I was a field engineer doing 20k+ business miles per year I managed to get up to 11 points just on speeding tickets Shocked

And more than likely a >10% loading on future insrance premiums for any vehicle they are permitted to drive.
And employer should be informed to adjust company vehicle insurance too.

Better going to jail.

Better call Saul.
