First, use the search function if you haven't - there's plenty of stuff on how to do it on all sorts of different bikes.

Second, what bike are you on?
Some bikes are a lot easier than others.

Same with the stoppy.

So its gay.

I ride a CBR600RR.
I've been told the unit pro link does make it harder to wheelie than alot of other bikes but it can be done, theres a guy the same bike who does wheelie sranding on the seat etc.

I test rode one and found it very easy to wheelie off the clutch almost as easy off the power.

For the XL, for most bikes you need to wait until you are quite close to the balance point to change gear, so the answer is to wheelie higher, a much harder task than on the CBR.

I ride a GSXR600. Wheelies are easy to get up, but I cant get past 1st gear yet.

There's 2 methods you can use. Dump the clutch in 1st or maybe 2nd, with the revs high.
It'll come up REALLY fast though, so be ready with the rear brake. You'll crap your pants the first time, and your forks will try to take your eyes out when you slam it back into the deck.

2nd method is much better all round. In 1st gear, slow to approx 25mph. Then accellerate until your revs reach approx. 10k. Now, drop the revs and whack them back up full again. At the same time, a little tug on the handlebars will help things.
Front should rise up nice and smooth, and not too fast.

Keep doing that until you're comfortable with it. That's where I am now... When I've got changing gears sorted I'll come back to you!

As for stoppies.... from about 40mph or more, hit the brakes nice and hard. Once the forks are compressed and the bike is settled, squeeze the brakes a bit harder, harder still... eventually the back will rise up nice and smooth. Don't squeeze too hard though. Wink

/edit - I stoppied my gixxer 2-up with Dom_ on the back... Thumbs Up

I've tried similar, but I was told to get to about 7k in second then ping the clutch, it did nothing.

In first gear at about 9k alitte clutch movement and some revs brought the front up but not far.

Would a wheelie school be any good, bear in mind you us there bike.

try this, and the wheel will definately come up.
roll along in 1st gear at about 10mph, whip the clutch in and hold the revs against the limiter then dump the clutch.

Should work

You need to just give it more stick. There's more than enough power there to wheelie it.

Get the revs above 10k, dip the throttle and nail it. Give it some beans man!!!

As I said, search the forum for tips. From what I've seen an empty industrial estate and the stuff written on here should teach you more than most wheelie schools if you're willing to learn.

The RR has a tall first gear, so I'd use that.

I was going along at about 5k, clutch in, rev a bit and dumping the clutch. You've then got another 7-8k to play with before the front comes down.

At 9/10k+ it should come up off the power.
Have you tried starting at a slow pace and just opening the throttle fully, that also makes it come up, though I'd just do it to get a feel of it, as it's not a great way.

Best advice is take it slow and try to be as confident as possible. My friend cant wheelie for shit because he gets too scared when the front comes up.

No fear. Karma

Best wheelies i can do is off the lights now. Hold it at about 12k feed the clutch through and the front will come up as soon as you move forwards, lean back abit and hold it open at a place where the front is comfortable. I can do that and into second, the front drops a hell of alot but i can manage to keep it up for abit longer. Don't look at the speedo when you do that though because you will nearly be in tripple figures. Shocked

My 50cc will wheely, stand on the passenger pegs, get it on the edge of the power band, and all at once, lean back, yank the bars, and open it up, comes up a treat but i soon put it down after 3-4 metres Laughing

I've just started trying to learn how to do them recently. I can get it up quite high, but have trouble keeping it there. For the initial 'get up' part though, I leave it in first, pull in the clutch, then rev hard (about 8-9k), then drop the clutch. As others have said, you gotta give it some revs. I also find that I'm automatically dropping the revs at the same time as I drop the clutch. This stops it from coming up properly. I can only get it up high if I follow through with the high revs.

Here's two links with a lot of information ...

Things to do then:-
(1) Learn to wheelie.
(2) Learn to repair head bearings and forks.
(3) Budget for a new clutch.

Very Happy

I've been trying wheelies on my bike, first a few skips, then hops then a small wheelie.. i've just been crawling along in 1st at say 5mph, revving to 8k and dumping the clutch but i tried it again yesterday and i was hopeless, back to wee hops and skips..

i'm gonna try what Suzuki suggested, 1st gear rev to 10k, back off then whack it open again..

I know how you feel though, a bit frustrated but i wouldn't worry just yet, all your practice will give you more of a feel fo rthe bike even if you don't get it up first, which is probably better imo.

For clutch wheelies, you need to be going a bit faster than that until you're good; try about 1/3rd revs, then clutch in and rev to 8k or whatever.

again there are plenty of other guides, but here's where I'm at with them.

only doing power wheelies at the moment(CBR6)

rev 1st gear to about 7k, drop off the power and then 'snap' the throttle open (very briskly) the front will come up, I suspect you will come straight off the power again as you poo your pants, but just keep doing little ones until you get ore and more confident.

I did find for a while that I was doing a couple of hops and it came up on the 2nd or 3rd time.

I can do this now to the level that I hardly need to drop the power much now, just snapping the throttle will lift it.
Its all about the snap. I do find it quite harsh though and theres not many recs left.

Hopefully after chaging my sprockets tomorrow for 1 down on the front, I should be able to do it in 2nd gear smoother.
