Just saw this on the news.

This is also happening somewhere in Kent.

For me, this would be a good reason not to visit these pubs.

How about you?

I don't see what the problem is really. I guess it's another case of "if you have nothing to hide..."

However, the "Big Brother" implications are huge. Thinking

The "Big Brother" implications, as you put it, are what concern me. It all starts very subtly, until you get to the point where it's too late to turn back.

Thumbs Up

Difficult one really...

I've had so many 'club' nights ruined by idiots (just in my group: broken jaw, cracked skull, glass in face in addition to 'being started on'). Although I don't like my civil liberties being eroded I, in this case, think it's a worth while sacrifice in order to ensure a fun night out i.e. whereby I know the people in the club's idea of fun is the same as mine, not smacking someone.

well for a start the average person living in London is caught on CCTV 300 times a day.
This morning the cabinet is debating legislation on identity cards will will (eventually) contain every possible piece of information about an individual.
May i correct my above response by pointing out this is my personal opinion as i really don't want a 'Big Brother'
Where will it end? As i'm currently doing a module of my course on child development it could (in effect) get to the point where I have policemen knocking on my door because i happen to include the words "child", "aged 5" etc... No thanks!

Haven't seen the details, but I can quite see both sides.

Yes it's part of a very worrying trend - and if we didn't see evidence of so much other dodgy stuff going on I'd feel a lot better about such things.

But then I'd say it's also an infringement of my human rights to get bashed over the head with a chair if I want to go for a quiet drink.

On the same token, people with no record are capable of that, and, in the same vein, people with previous history of violence ARE capable of 'growing up' and reforming!

Agreed, people are able to reform, I'm actually a great believer in it. However, given the choice, I'd rather not be the poor sod that is on the end of a chair/bottle before said person is proved guilty/reforms.

What kind of child development module looks at emails etc.?

thats not what i meant, i was trying to put across that it's possible that in years to come, just by entering certain words into a search engine, 'Big Brother' could flag me as a potential peadophile, etc and the friendly neighbourhood law enforcement agency COULD pay me a visit.

Cool and the gang: I'd just be a bit worried if, in child psych these days, they were teaching stuff like that.

So once registered as a trouble maker you can’t get into the other clubs in the area?. Thinking

So what happens when there is a mix up or something, you’re with a group of mates, someone starts shi* you get involved having no choice in the matter, the bouncers and club staff see you as the trouble maker and that’s the end of your night out.
How long does this last then?
Do you go up to the door next weekend and they say “Nah, not tonight mate, you’re a trouble maker”?
How would you go out again, also how embarrassing if you aren’t a thug….Rolling Eyes

I was refused into a club after being turned away from another one, because they used the walkie talkies to describe me so the bouncers knew who to look out for.
As for the big brother thing, I don’t like it, but they already know what area you are in when you use your ATM, or if you use a card in a club. I went to London for a fortnight and had my wallet stolen, they used the card about 5 times at various corner shops, the next morning Barclays were on the phone to me, that’s a good thing as I got my money back but it did freak me out how closely they were monitoring little old me.

Hi

Don't like the idea. Seems a way to get at everyone in the hope that they prevent the odd one or two trouble makers causing problems.

Or maybe it is a way to "raise awareness" and scare people into supporting more repressive measures to prevent dangerous trouble makers. After all, it has worked for terrorism which is even less likely to affect any individual.

All the best

Keith

I don’t see the system as a cost effective prevention method either, most drug/drink related violence starts with no regard to club security or CCTV, thugs are going to cause shi* no matter what.
So some one is slashed with a bottle, beaten up etc and this is by a first time offender, amongst all the trouble I doubt very much you’d easily get some larger lout to put his hand on a finger print recognition machine for next time.
I’m guessing the system costs a few bob, which means larger chain clubs will be able to run it but not others.
I think this would be a better idea on hospitals, door staff and ID recognition machines to stop criminals entering.

Whatever hapened to the trusty doorman?

After 12 pints of Stella I doubt the fact you may have had your fingerprints taken will make you any less intent on sticking a glass in someones face. Rolling Eyes

Bollocks to that. I'd rather stay home with a DVD and a bottle than go out and be treated like a criminal just to get into a place.

Then you should be disposing of your bottles more carefully?

No.
I even avoid going to a pub with door staff if there is a choice! If there is door staff it means they think there is going to be trouble!
I have been turned away from many establishments over the years because they don't like my shoes. Evidently yobs never wear smart shoes!!

In my experience most trouble occurs outside the pubs and clubs

Not really about whether you're a yob or not. More the fact that the owner doesn't want any scruffy feckers in. It caused confict when you start discriminating againg chavs in their trackies and trainers, so it's just a general rule. No trainers. Simple Smile

Club owners don't care about incidents outside their clubs

My local’s landlady who I know quite well now has wrote on the blackboard outside “No chav’s” also their sister pub in the town centre has done the same. Lol
Their was an article in the paper the next day with the owners of one pub saying “We’ll have chav’s” making out like their worth the oxygen, sadly everyone knows this pub is a complete shit hole anyway.
