It's a big bugbear for anyone wanting to go electric. The expense of putting in new electricity points is huge and as you rightly point out, it's a niche industry. C&RT (the owners of the canal system) have said the only place they can afford to put new charging points in is London because the electricity supplys run under the towpath.

Mainstream motorcycling is dying anyway. Hardly any kids are doing their licenses now. electric 'big' bikes won't take off, IC engined 'big' bikes will die out and nobody will care.

I suspect ypu are correct. It's a bit ironic that electric mopeds and small commuters could get more people onto two wheels. Especially when citys blanket ban ICE engines and EV cars are too expensive for many. Then if they get the biking bug there will be no where for them to progress

If they are submerged in a different culture, they won't care. India and Thailand spent ages with mostly small bikes, and managed to develop a culture around that.

because unlike other countries the UK used EU directives as a pisstake towards prospective bikers.

Well thats easy to show.
Its becoming more and more common for things like battery capacity to be artificially reduced unless you pay more. i'.e a large capacity battery is fitted to the vehicle but you can only access 60% of it unless you pay the extra. There is also reduced speed charging unless you pay extra to access the facility. I believe Tesla have done this and Zero have either done it or are planning to do so.

As things become more and more software based using closed code things will get worse as it is an easy way to make a larger profit.

Just to dredge this up for something current. Yes, that was a dad pun.

The Harley/Livewire Del-Mar is now open for European pre-orders, with just 100 bikes available across Europe, inc UK. When this happened in the US, they sold out in 18 minutes. For Europe, it looks like it has been up a couple of days and you can still click the button to register your interest.

Full specs haven't been released. I think it's a nice looking thing, but it appears to offer less performance and range than the ~£12k Zero, and it's £19k. For added fun, the more powerful, longer range livewire one is now £23k.

I had a feeling it was going to go to shit when Harley said they would release an affordable electric motorcycle.
