If you are that fucking hard up sell your second home (the boat) then.

I never said I was that hard up, I said i was worse off due to this government than I was before in answer to Virus's point that he thought people would be better off under Labour.

My predictions for this year?

The labour government will prove to be better than the tories at improving things for the general public (yeah I know, its a low bar) but mainstream media and all the frothing far right gammons (including some on here) wont actually acknowledge it as it doesn't fit in with their rhetoric.

You think the mainstream media (BBC, Sky News etc.) are against left-wing parties? Eh?

If you knew anything about far-right gammon you'd know common talking points are...
- the Conservatives were worse on immigration than Labour
- Blair deported more illegals
- illegal immigration whilst an expensive pain in the arse isn't the main issue, compared to I dunno the 906,000 net migration in 2023

To that last point Starmer will reduce net migration to maybe 5-600k, it'll be hailed as a victory and be the new normal, with everyone forgetting it was 2-300k for years before Canada, Australia, the UK all mysteriously went full genocide post-covid.

If you paid £300 for a train from the west country to London you are even more of a blithering idiot than you portray.

I Used to spend £5000 a flight from UK to Singapore but that was paid by a private company who made money. I just hope that £300 train fair was on your expense and not the tax payers.

Boomers gonna Boom Wink

A while ago the Old Fella* was musing "...I dunno, it's all going wrong..." You know why? I replied, 'cos you old fuckers have all the money and the houses and refuse to die.

I get on well with my father-in-law Very Happy

I'll die soon, my money, house & boat will go to wife and the kids. That's what I want. Well, not the boat cause they will not have a clue and it will probably sink. Laughing

Just as a talking point.............

I had absolutely nothing from my family as an inheritance. Everything I got have I worked for. Now today everyone thinks we (boomers) were given the keys and probably the poorer ones who became council house tenants were, especially when Maggie brought in right to buy. However boomers haven't been controlling financial society for donkeys years.

I will leave my wife/kids the best part of a million quid when you include the house and boat. Thats between my wife, one son and two daughters. It's not that much when you break it down. It will be diluted to a few hundred grand each.

Think about it. That money will disappear into what ever black hole money goes into. You youngsters have to stop blaming boomers for every thing that upsets you and start being responsible for your own futures. The trouble is everyone nowadays expects to be suckled from the cradle to the grave and you will learn it's not going to happen.

but I'm sure when we boomers are all gone you will find someone else to blame without actually confronting reality.

The difference for Boomers was back in the day you could start with nothing but a trade and get the house, the spouse, the car and the kids and still have most if not more out the other side. Now you would need at least both partners working full time to even consider saving for a mortgage deposit.

With all due respect, Mr. Polarbear, "Pull ya socks up lad!" isn't gonna cut it in the 21st Century and frankly we're all sick of hearing it.

If you want to get there for something during peak time without having to sit around before and after to travel outside off-peak time thats how much it costs.

I was out of the house for just shy of 12 hours and you will be very pleased to know it as at taxpayers expense.

Release a load of prisoners early and you’ll find a lot of them were scheduled to be deported afterwards anyway. A bonus, a one-off increase.

Have you heard of video-conferencing?

The “Boomer” thing is nonsense in my personal “late-period Boomer (1962)” experience, and the generations generalisation is not reflected when I observe friends, colleagues or acquaintances. Some got lucky, some didn’t. I don’t dwell on the supposed injustice, it’s just life.

Yes but it's actually easier to network with people in real life once in a while.

Well the Boomer Blair institute still has a huge influence on Britain, and our current PM is a boomer so "not us guv" doesn't really work.

I think with the exception of me you're mainly arguing with older GenX'ers Smile

My expectations were based on what I saw my (thick as shit) boomer parents achieve, who will proudly tell you they left school with no qualifications but "did alright" (house, car etc..).

Whilst their kids went to university (encouraged by boomer blair...), and struggle to rent a 1 bedroom flat with home ownership being a pipe dream.

A boomer was telling me how she bought her first house, a new build 3 bed at 21 whilst working as a mobile self-employed hairdresser. I put in how much she paid into the inflation calculator and her face dropped when it came out at 40k.

She then had to start again 20 something years later (in the mid-90s), and bought a 3 bed house in the same area for... 45k. She now lives in a 280k* house.

*in terms of increases 500k in 20 odd years is the largest I personally know of, it's more just to illustrate the window they had

"Boomer Blaming" is mostly focused on those with multiple properties who spout it was down to hard work and nothing to do with being in the right place at the right point in time. It distracts from the real terms slowdown in wage increases that began in 1971 and flatlined after the 2008 crash. Even the most blind have realised "we're being fucked!" since Covid.

"Oh? The natives don't want to be a slave class, whatever will we do?" And the rest, as they say, writes itself.

So a US invasion of Denmark on the cards this year?

I'm still not clear why Trump wants Greenland. They all go on about military security but that doesn't fly because they can have military bases there anyway.

Is there oil?

When people envisage "pristine wilderness" they're probably thinking:

https://www.nsf.gov/news/mmg/media/images/savanna1_f.jpg

and not:

https://images.stockcake.com/public/6/d/c/6dcad53a-4d65-42e5-8729-1ee746994a83_medium/pristine-arctic-landscape-stockcake.jpg

It's a lot easier to sell environmental destruction with the latter. Let's be honest: there are "resources" everywhere it just depends on what you're prepared to destroy to get at them.

If boomer and genx became rich on rising poperty prices it's not their fault per se but simply a by-product of supply and demand in the housing market.

Demand from a burgeoning population - mainly through immigration.

Supply through lack of house-building -due to planning regs and wanting to keep the counryside 'nice'.

You therefore have to question why then people are still risking their lives (in some cases) to come here when apparently they will have such a shit time. and no house.

I suppose you could argue that the Labour Gov is looking to strip out some of that wealth with incresing Inheritance tax (by freezing the bands) and increasing CGT in some case.

Who was it who opened the borders? Boomer Blair. Who voted for Blair? In '97 no millennial was old enough to, I wasn't even old enough to vote the third time he got elected (post-Iraq war, post-everyone knowing what he was about).

That in itslelf didn't affect supply though did it - not replacing the council houses bought and keeping pace with teh population rises is part of the culprit.

Also low interest rates (late 90s) increased demand while high interest rates in the early 90s caused a crash (or correction if you prefer) that then shut down house building..

.. lots of factors, but fundamentally if there were loads of supply prices would come back down. BUT no-one really likes new development on their doorstep and most everyone is a NIMBY. so it gets political..

The English native population has barely been replacing itself for decades. All of the growth in demand has been through immigration. Some of the increase in pricing has been due to foreign investment (Chinese nationals own a surprising amount of London property) however if there weren't people to occupy the spaces, the rents wouldn't justify the increasing costs and pricing would drop.
It seems that we live in a fairly nice part of the world and over recent years the various forms of useless governments have invited everyone to live here, even offering to put them up if they arrive without making any arrangements.
The whole of Europe is seeing this impact. I don't blame boomers, I blame the WEF, globalists and the idiots who believe that GDP line go up is the only thing that matters.

Are you really as thick as a brick? A house is a house and someone lives in it. It's totally irrespective of who owns that house.
