So...what book are you reading at the moment?

My sister in law gave me a book called The Kitchen God's Wife for my birthday (apparently she's also bought me an actual kitchen god, some little Chinesey guy to sit on top of my fridge (?) - but I haven't read it yet, as I am currently audiobooking my way through something entitled Murder Your Employer - The McMasters Guide to Homicide ( ) which has been an entertaining holiday read.

The Kitchen God's Wife is surprisingly good. I'm halfway through it already, and spend more time than I should in the morning reading it in bed before I get up.

I had nothing to read on th way home tonight as I had forgotten my phone, and was already lugging several books for work. So I stopped at Waterstones in the Kings Road and somehow managed to drop £45 at the check-out (three books - I could have bought a dozen and still wanted more)

So now in addition to the above, I am also reading "Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow", which is apparently comes highly recommended.

I'm more than a bit pleased that I am getting my reading mojo back again, that little course of Elvanse I took last year has done me a power of good. Been reading since I was three years old (according to my Mum) and I had become quite distressed that I lost the abiity to concentrate on books about 15 years ago. But now it appears to be returning, I am delighted. Books always take me away into another world, away from whatevs is bothering me, and into a place where I can forget about real life for a while. A long while. Fucking yes

For my listening pleasure on the train to and from work I am currently listening to When McKinsey Comes to Town: The Hidden Influence of the World's Most Powerful Consulting Firm.

Its very interesting!

I have finished Starship Troopers, and I hate to say it but I think I enjoyed the first half more. The second half seemed a bit of a rush?? I don't wish to compare the book to the film A Gentleman and an Officer, but it just shows you can make a story in itself out of boot camp alone- anything after can be another story.

Most notible was chapters that stopped being 15 pages long and started being 50 odd. Maybe he wrote those chapters in one long sitting- doing so in order to get all he wanted down on paper whilst he remembered. Anyway- good book, glad I read it.
