You can pick up 400's for less than that. Ann paid £1500 for her CBR, and Ive seen VFR's and ZXR's going from around that mark.

You also need to consider restriction.
Are you going to leave the bike restricted for the 2 years? Or even a year. If you are then a 250 might be the better bet.
Have you considered a full power 125?

Insurance on a 250 hornet is quite cheap, not the fastest bike around tho.

not gettin a stroker too high maintenence,

keith has proved that 4 strokes go wrong and are expensive when they do

but 2 strokes go more frequently, and are a pain in the arse

yes there is gonna be a restriction in whatever bike for two years, however, as the CBR250 only makes around 40, i might be able to get away with taking it out before the 2 years is up

as for a full power 125, it would struggle more than the 250 and would be pushing itself to the limit most of the time, also i want a real bike and a 250 is where you can start calling your bike real :)

Have a look around then. Sit on a few and see if you can get some test rides. ZXR250 is similar to the CBR, small (but not as small AFAIK) and revs to 18K, look slike the bigger ZXR's. Or theres the Hornet, more expensive but newer. Heavy for 250 and expensive on tyres (same tyres as blade). Looks nice and sounds gorgeous with a race pipe.

If you're gonna get hassled about the restriction it don't matter what bike you go for. At least with a 400 - if you did restrict it - you'll have something to look forward to after the 2 years.
I can't see the point of going for a 250 when overall it'd end up costing more. You save nothing on the bike or insurance. Parts will be more expensive. After 2 years you'll really want a bigger bike and wish you had a 400. The restriction will cost the same but you'll gain nothing from removing it.

The CBR 250 is a sweet bike.. sweet spot at AROUND 14000 revs!! The engine sounds superb very unique.

I raced one a couple of months ago and the NSR takes the lead at the start until you hit about 100KPH... after that the CBR starts to catch up. Oh and when it hits the sweet spot.. it really pulls!

The one I raced was a Hurricane.. so its not the latest.. but had no restrictions in place.

The engines are very reliable and can get good mileage on them.

The handling and the brakes are much better than the NSR though!

alright.. thats enough about the CBR!! Now the NSR 250 is the one I WANT!! Cool
