1k i got quoted on a CBR4 thats 19 with 1 yrs NCB

but i've also been quoted 1055 on a YZF600R.

Personally I wouldn't really want to be paying that much insurance (I.e. as much as paid for bike.....) makes it very expensive!!

Sports 400s are high for insurance, but I love mine and wouldn't have it any other way.

£3000 can be done, I pretty much managed that (I won a wee prize....and used the winnings), I had a set of bike lessons - over a weekend (While I was skiving work and a management course!! Naughty me Wink

), then took my test, then went and bought the baby and still had money left over for insurance.

Anna, at least your no claims is still building up. I cancelled my NSR insurance a week or so ago and have just got a partial refund back. This means that my next bike I am only gonna have 1 years no claims (from when I had my moped at 16) so my insurance is gonna be a bit higher for my 400 Sad

On the positive side, at least it's gonna make me get my arse in gear when I have fixed my NSR to sell it and get a new bike, otherwise I think I might be saying... hmmmm I'm still insured on it, might as well run it in and then take it for a flat out blast...

3000, i hope you have all the gear also. it cost me 60 pounds in lessons and 80 pound for test, but i am a careful rider. to keep lessons down, book test in 1 month, go to bike teacher-guy have a lesson each week and youll pass no problem!. oh and your theory

i have worked out that it is deff possable to get a 400 and the the nessery shiney stuff for it with £3000

1: bike zxr400 or cbr400 = <£1500
2: test = £200
3: restriction = £150
4: insurance = £1150

total = £3000 with no change.
now all i need is leathers, i might be able to beg the out of me old folks though Very Happy

Yep, I got my 1989 ZXR for £1750 haggled from £1900 and that was very cheap for its condition/mileage/extras. Most of the decent ones arent below about £1800-£2000.

If you get a cheap bike you're most likely gonna build up heafty repair bills in a short time, also remember a 400 isn't like a scooter, and you'll be pumpin a lot of petrol into it, tyres, C&S etc..

Depends a bit on when he buys the bike. Summer is ending and prices are dropping (a colleague had the offered trade in on his ZX6R drop £250 in one week against a Firestorm). If he hangs on till Christmas then the prices will be at about there lowest (cos most people dont want to ride in the depths of winter)
