He's pretty much doubling the current in the wire to that bulb. 55W bulb and 48W grips. The wire from the fuse would cope with it but will the wire from the headlamp switch to the bulb be rated for that? Will the microrelay that turns the light on?

I always use a relay controlled, fused spur from the battery for stuff like that.

You can buy neat little fuse/relay holders with room for a SPNO relay and three fuses.

I did a how to on this 10 years ago. It appears the photofuckit images are still up.

I also did one on fitting the grip heaters.

For what it's worth. they are still working but I had to replace the rocker switch about three years ago.

I'd just like to say I followed Stinkwheel's guide and bought the same relay for the heated grips on my VFR, and it worked very well.

I did not attempt to power the heated grips from a switched live, as that would be dumb. You don't know what fuses or components are in between that could be fried by drawing the current a set of heated grips draws.

This is the problem with Youtube, because people make money from it, any know nothing can present stuff as 'guides' and try to monetise it, even when the information imparted is utter shash.

On that note, while I'm here...

I can't seem to find the part number of the relay I used in your threads Stinky, any chance you can remember what it is? I might need another soon for my new commuting bike?

Any 4-pin SPNO relay will do the trick. There are two common arrangements of pins so if you're using a holder, you'd want the same one but if you're just connecting with flying leads, the terminals are numbered.

This kind of thing: https://www.vehiclewiringproducts.co.uk/c-219-relays-flasher-units/p-642-12v-4-blade-type-b

I followed your guide Stinkwheel to fit some to my Deauville, I will be repeating it again for the VFR when they arrive. Still got spare relays and plenty of uninsulated connectors.
