That still doesn't work as you are still taking something from me that I had, even if I did not know it.

If I watch a film that I would not have paid to see, what does the producer lose, clearly its different if I watch something rather than going to the cinema or buying the DVD, but if I watch something I had no intention of paying to see, then in real terms there is no financial or physical loss so the comparison to theft does not stack up.

Its probably closer to forgery, but if I copy a painting for my own use, I doubt I would be accused of stealing from the artist.
