What are the Beriks like? And eBay for the RedRoute's?

Beriks where good but they have a push button to do them up which kept coming updone, I paid £12 to a taylors to stitch in a proper Jean button into them.

Beriks feel like the most protective but they are lacking in the style front, they are also are very heavy.

The red route are comfy and pretty stylish, I don't think they are up to the same amount of stress as the beriks.

Well it seems as though Draggin' Jeans, Redroute and Hood are the best then.

Just been on Hood's website and their testimonials have definately changed my mind. Looks like I'll be buying the K7 in black. Worried a bit about the colour 'cos it really is black. I like very dark blue/black colours. And the blue is, as someone mentioned, Marks and Spencers own colour Laughing. The redroute rideout colour seems to be the perfect colour so these may sway my mind in time. Just depends on what people think about the protection they offer. I wont be doing high speed anyway when I come off, my bike does 43 on the flat, flat out Razz. They are the same price too so...

Yeah, the price is a bit steep and chances are I will be wearing them everyday but I will be buying more pairs in the future so in the end it is worth it.

Thumbs Up

Arlen Ness. EoT. Razz

Not owned any other brands(tried loads on), and chose the A.N because they have tapered legs, so have a nice look to them. Can't be doing with baggy kecks.
They come with removeable knee protection and come up good on a delicate 40C wash.

If you're a 34" waist get the 32s. They are long in the leg which is good as i don't like drafts.

Stitching is good...will probably test them one day.

That’s why I wondered about the ND4. I reckon the colour is more contemporary.

One other thing to note is that almost all of these Kevlar jeans, from any of the manufacturers, will tend to have quite high waists. That’s perfect on the bike so you don’t get a draught up your back, but you can end up looking a little Cowell-esque if you tuck your shirt in.

That also has a bearing on the fit. My normal jeans are 34s and fit me well, sitting fairly low. The Hoods, being a little higher, have a bit more belly to contend with and the 34s I bought are quite snug.... but don’t buy different to your normal size without trying.

Are there any that have normal waists or am I doomed to be disappointed?

Cowellesque doesn't cover it in my case. It looks ridiculous.

Comfortable when riding but hardly acceptable for walking around the shops in.

I totally agree with bloke. Im 16, I cant go round looking like Simon Cowell. They will just have to be baggy then. I dont tuck my shirt in anyways, Grandad Laughing.

ND4s are darker than the K7s and concept 6s, still not the best looking jeans mind.

Vs Draggins, draggins feel lighter and and on me they are slightly looser fit, I didn't buy them after trying them on because the as mentioned, the kevlar coverage isn't as good and plus they just didn't feel as sturdy, however the pair I tried seemed well stitched and put together properly with no loose threads or faults that I could spot.

Not tried a pair yet but afaik Sartso are a made by ex Draggin people, they look like more of the same but with more emphasis on trying to make them look trendy and whatnot.

Vs Lindstrads/Halversons, these are plenty bulky enough to feel like they would stand up, but both the material and stitching quality make me suspect they wouldn't survive a trip down the road as well as the Draggins or Hoods. Also worth noting is my combats are a much baggier fit than the Hoods and cooler on a hot day although you will end up with a sweaty backside if you're sitting around in them.

Comparing against those all my hoods have pretty much impeccable stitching and much sturdier denim as well as a bit more kevlar coverage. The downside of the thick denim is that it looks a bit old school.

It was the kevlar coverage on the Sartso that I thought was quite impressive - pretty much everywhere except the fly/inside leg and below the knees. They were a really nice fit and way more normal looking than any of the other makes, which frankly look like the sort of thing Jeremy Clarkson would buy! They were pretty low cut which was my only concern, but I'm planning to sew in a zip for my jacket which should ensure I don't get a gap at the back and end up with a bicycle parked there by accident!! Because they have a great fit, the best quality with good attention to detail like the extra belt loops to prevent them from slipping down and giving a builders crack. You can't really ask for better quality.

G has crash tested his pair and they saved his skin from road rash, and yet has bought cheap 'ebay special' kevlar jeans that ripped when he sat down.

The only real rival to Hood as far as I can tell is Draggin, and they seem to not come in nice styles etc. Plus they are more expensive and aren't made in the UK. Razz

Hood will happily exchange if the size doesn't fit.

I don't know of any other jeans that offer the same level of Kevlar coverage as the hood. I can't guarantee to only crash on the kevlar panels with other brands - the Hood jeans are protected everywhere.

I wore mine for 850 miles in one day on the bike and they were plenty comfortable (as comfortable as you get doing 850 miles in a day...)

As for the high waist band/simon cowell issue - are you guys for real? If it's that much of an issue for you off the bike just wear them really low so you show off your boxers like all the home boys do....

Haha. But yeah, chances are I will be getting the Hood ones.

Are the ND4's just as good as the K7's because I prefer the colour. Also they are £2 more expensive (woah! Laughing) so that would imply they are better? I may be wrong but thanks! Thumbs Up

The only difference between my ND4s and K7s are the colour, the back pocket shape and a few little differences in trim that are probably more down to the year I got them. The fit and internals are the same.

if I was to do that I'd have 3ft of fabric around my ankles and likely fall on my arse.

Anyone here with a waist size bigger than 40" that cares to recommend some decent kit?

42" to 44" waist, 32" inside leg. Yes I'm a fat bastard.

Hood make all jeans to custom length, you tell them what inside leg you want (bearing in mind to wear them on the bike with boots you probably want them an inch longer or so to avoid drafts.)

How do Hood's compare with the RST jeans?

Was in J&S today and didn't see any Hoods. That means I can't try them on. Don't know if Hein Gericke or Just Bikers (for you Plymouth lot) do them?

Just would be nice to try a pair on before I buy them. Then if I get the wrong ones ending up sending them back.

Or if anyone has tryed on the Hoods, are they true to size?

Thanks again Thumbs Up
