Hi All,

Firstly, a decent bike forum! My gripe is this - everyday I ride round the Nth Circular Road in London. It has three of the top ten most dangerous junctions in the UK on it. It a mix of heavily congested 3 lanes, down to two lanes and in places one lane. There are commuters, long distance travelling saleman, juggernauts, vans and bikes, all competing for the same space and trying it on. EVERY day, without exception, filtering in traffic I come up against idiots who are on their phones. They have no clue as to what is going on around them - they often straddle two lanes, stopping me and others filtering, switching lanes without indicating & looking; more interested in their phone chat then driving on this particularly nasty road.

My view is that if 30% of drivers stop using their phones then the risk to us bikers diminishes by a significant amount. I also agree that people who eat, smoke (how many times have you had a lighted cigarette butt land on your lap?), do their make-up, have sex (yep, it all happens on the NCR!), should be penalised. No-one can disagree that being a bike rider makes you more aware as a driver and that when you get behind a wheel you are generally more proficient then a person who has never ridden a bike.

If this law saves the life of one biker then it is in my view well worth it and I will do my one man crusade on the NCR to stop people using their phones!

An interesting argument you put forward.

/devils advocate/ However, banning motorbikes would save a hell of a lot of bikes lives yet you would object to this i'm sure. /devils advocate/

Well bikes are not an essential part of the UK transports system while 4 wheeled vehicles are.
Excluding bike couriers, but we could survive with out them.

My first decree will be to implement my new road safety law.

I have right of way. Everyone must get out of *my* way.

Hi

Welcome to BCF Very Happy Good first post btw. Regarding the new law/legislation, like Keith I did question whether it was needed at first. But listening to some people in the office talking about it today I'm glad it has become so black and white now - many people here didn't realise they could be prosecuted for it at all Shocked

Pretty much in place in Saudi Arabia. If you are not a citizen then any accident is your fault for being in the country.

All the best

Like dark visors
there already are laws on black visors (or any tint)no more then 33 % tint during the day, and it must be removed when it gets dark. Although i think you can just ride with your visor up like i used to when it got dark.

Sounds like the Isle of Skye. Right of way is not governed by which side the passing place is on, or who's got the biggest vehicle. It's how many generations your family has lived there Rolling Eyes

Surely with too many inbred families around, the number of generation varies depending on which parent you track the line through Wink

All the best
