Curious to see the answer too. Just had a look on the hood website (where i purchased my jeans) and,

Hi all, new to the forums here.

Interesting Thread.
I own 3 pairs of "kevlar" Jeans 2 pairs of Draggin Jeans 1 pair of HOOD Jeans. That's 1 pair ofDraggin Combat's, 1 pair of Draggin Jeans, and 1 pair of HOOD Jeans, I think The hood jeans are well made, they are a much better fit than the Draggin jeans, cheaper, more kevelar (armid), the Denim is thicker and the knee and kidney protectors that I got look a lot tougher than the ones that were supplied with my Draggin Jeans.

fortunately I haven't had to test them.

Dealers will always put down Hood jeans, hood only sell via their website, whereas 'Draggin/Red route' whore them out to as many people as possible.

Also i can't remember which but Hood/Draggin have different properties both good within their own merits.

One of them is knitted kevlar, the other is woven kevlar the latter being better as theres more surface area to cause friction as opposed to ripping a thread.

Hood also line the area more than any other jean manufacurer.

I've not crashed in mine but still, worth every penny.

Only thing i will say is the armor (which IS CE approved) does not sit very well, quite often the hip/knee armor would slip down to my shins and thus i removed it completely. Wink

At no point did I say we sold them!! Again, this is only from my experience of what people coming into the shop have said.

I've crashed in hood jeans. Granted it wasn't very high speed (still managed to break my collar bone) but the jeans were fine, still wear them.

I've got a pair of Red Route jeans, very comfy, used them a lot last summer when my car was broken down and I was using the bike as my main mode of transport. Got the knee armour in them, don't find it really gets in the way, have even been known to wear them when off the bike and all my other jeans are in the wash or at the girlfriend's house.

Only thing I would say is that the top button, above the fly, has come off, which isn't a massive inconvenience for me because I wear a belt, but possibly isn't the best recommendation in terms of quality.

Not been lucky enough to test them properly yet, although I do remember coming off during that period of almost exclusively wearing them and thinking as I slid down the road 'blimey, these jeans are holding up well' before I looked down and realised I'd leathered up that day, relaxed a bit, tried to sit/stand up at 20 mph and ended up on my face. Classy.

Wait, so "time after time", people are bringing in their ripped up Hoods that they didn't even buy from you... why? Just to show you and have a moan about them?

You know, we all get caught out bullshitting from time to time. It's OK, the first step to recovery is to to admit that you're powerless over the bullshit.

Not really. What make of jeans? Why didn't the kevlar protect you?

Kevlar isn't going to offer much impact protection, it's there for the abrasion, assuming you didn't have the armor in they are not going to be much different from a regular pair of levis until you start sliding along the ground.

I want to resurrect this post as I'm currently in the market for some riding jeans for those non power ranger days. My criteria is; knee and hip armor, reasonable level of abrasion resistance, and straight cut.

So far I have tried and returned the following..

Route One Lexington Jeans - Really liked them but were not designed for the sportsbike squat as they were far too tight around the knees

Rev it Cordura – Not a bad feel but they seemed very poorly made, I returned them due to the fastening button falling off after a week

After trawling the market I have narrowed it down to these 2, and I wanted to see if anyone on here has any words of wisdom.

I've been looking at Kevlar Jeans for a while now, but I only ride for ridings sake, not to go anywhere in
particular. I start at home and finish up there. But the recent hot weather (now gone it seems)
was making me very uncomfortable in full leathers, I was soaking wet by the time I had pushed my bike
out into the street. It would take a half hour on the road before I cooled down a bit. The thing that
put me off of the jeans mostly was the price, I can't drop over a hundred quid on jeans that may or may not
help in a tumble. So instead, I bought a pair of used Richa Monsoon textile trousers from ebay for £18
and they have been a revelation. I wear my leathers tight and to a certain extent they restrict my
movement but these textiles are loads better and don't seem to get as hot as the leathers but also don't
feel cold either. They seem to keep my temperature just right and there's a zip in thermal liner
for later in the season. I liked them so much I just bought a Richa 3 way (fnarr fnarr) jacket to go with them.
It is mesh vented with zip in wind/waterproof liner and a zip in thermal one too. You can have either in,
neither in or both in. Total spend £50 on jacket and trousers. Gotta love ebay Smile
Bike kit has come on so much since my younger days.

I'll see if the wife wants to cough up for kevlar jeans at crimbo, but for now I'm very happy with the textiles.

Forceriders £30 eBay ones are a good start. Currently have 6 pairs, also have Draggin and Drayko and the Mrs has Hornee. I've slid in the expensive Draggins and the cheapo Forceriders and the cheap ones held up fine.

Good to know the cheap ones hold up. There are quite a lot of people suggesting that draggin are the only brand that stand up in the abrasion department.

Laughing

In her summer jacket the label on the back saying "Hornee" is uncovered and does sometimes get comments when stopped at lights.

The Forceriders jeans actually have more coverage than my Drayko and her Hornee (also those 2 pricey ones have no CE armour). The only real thing better with the Drayko and Hornee is the actual stitching of the Denim but that hardly justifies the cost. Draggin have thicker Kevlar than the cheap ones but having not managed to tear through the cheap Kevlar I think it's actually more than needed, that said with Draggin you do get the impression the extra cost has gone in to quality and material however are they worth anything between 3 to 6 times the cheap ones?..... I don't think so, unless the label itself has value to the buyer.

How often have you "road tested" them, and which would you recommend on that basis?

Usually replace and refresh every November at the NEC show on the stand that always sells red routes of all sizes and styles for £50 a pair!!

At that price what's not to like? Wear then 5 days a week all year commuting. And the odd weekend ride when I can't be bothered to put my leather bottoms.

Unless I'm doing it all wrong, the problem I have with Draggin jeans and the reason that I don't yet own a pair is that they are all too long!

I'd like to think they do jeans in different leg lengths, but I've not tried on any yet that suit a 32-33" leg, and I'd be fucked backwards if I'm going turn up a new set of expensive armoured jeans!

You can get them hemmed for a few quid. My issue is that a lot of them make me look like an 90's hip hop rapper, the spidi furious and alpinestars hellcat seem to netate that.

I'm not expecting the same level of protection as my leathers, but would like something to wear on the bike that I can also spend time strolling about in.

Can't speak for him but I've "tested" trousers 4 times this year only 3 of them were Kevlar jeans though.

Had Hood jeans for 3.5 years, warn every day but that's usually over another pair of trousers or shorts. Only on long rideouts (weekends) do they stay on all day.
Washed 12 times a year.

Kevlar type liner covers more than many brands. Knox Armour inserts work well, low speed low side didn't test them too much, but I was fine.

Website has plenty of testimonials, although trusting they are not fake though.

Jeans have faded a little, but that's about it. When I have to buy another pair, won't hesitate to buy Hood again. Thumbs Up

Jeans are never going to be as good on impact protection, but that's the choice. I also got a large size, so they fit over work clothes and can double down in winter. So that will reduce the effectiveness of the inserts as the jeans are big, but that's my choice, not a fault of the jeans.

Am happy that it's buying British, but that's not the main reason.
