i don't know how tall you are but a quick rattle on ebay of searching for Marin, max price £200 found this in nottingham

*nerd mode* It has it's original tyres on. So has either had them re fitted (as they're shite) or has had very little use.

Those forks are spring so have long service intervals, i've never had to re true my wheels and my Marin has had some grief. the crank arms look very worn (finish rubbed off) but i know from my bike the finish came off the cranks almost instantly.

Think the most important fact the OP can take from this thread is that £200 will not buy you a half decent brand new bike. Double your budget and it might.

Seriously, if you want new and can stretch to £300, you can get a Specialized Hardrock. The frame is the standout component here and gives a decent start base.

It's probably not quite that bad; but motorbike comparison is buying a new Chinese bike or a second hand Japanese bike.
Everyone knows that while the idea of a "new bike" may save some hassle, the reality is overall it'll probably be more hassle and money. And you'll lose more money in the long run from both devaluation as well as replacing quickly-knackered parts.
