To be fair, the helicopters aren't all that. They're success rate at actually finding people is really very low. You only see the sucesssful chases on television Smile

Hellz yeh Thumbs Up Twisted Evil Middle Finger Middle Finger Twisted Evil . I wouldn't run from the police, but did manage to get a tug from them once when i was carrying my guitar back from a studio session... they assumed it was stolen. I got done for driving without accordance to my license b4 and pleaded ignorance, did nothing to my license and got away with a repremand.

By the way, do they have a gumball 3000 equivalent for bikers... a Y2k would definately come in handy there.... hoisting a stoppie to the Lithuanian border or something of that manner Razz

It all depends, if after careful consideration I decided I could get away then hell yeah I would do a runner, it does depend on what I had done though, if a copper was chasing me at 150mph for example and was around 1/2 a mile away then I wouldn't stop, I wouldn't stop for little patrol cars either, how on earth is a Vauxhall Astra going to get near me. If the game was up i'd stop. Thumbs Up

I know that this would probably be a snap decision at the time and depends on what I'd done, but I would probably always stop now.

I did do a runner once in my youth. I was on a derestricted 125 doing around about a 100mph on a dual carriageway. I knew that I was well and truly shafted if they caught me, so I made the decision to just go.

They were in a Fiesta and I was on an RS125, I knew the road/area well and knew that they weren't close enough to get my plate at the time.

I went about two junctions down the road where it went around a left hand bend then flew off at the next exit. It goes into the outskirts of a housing estate, so I slowed down to 35mph and kept an eye out, nothing. I went all the way through the estate at the correct speed limits and followed the road round. The road through the estate and brings you back around to the island at the bottom of the carriageway I was originally on but on the opposite side.

So I pulled up to the island, it was the only route home, there sitting on the other side was the fiesta! I carried on as though nothing had happened and I'd never seen them before. They pulled up along side me in traffic and had a good stare but did nothing. I think I may well have been far enough away from them through the whole thing for them to not be sure enough and I approached them from the opposite direction.

Needless to say, I have never done that since and don't have any plans to.

Er, they'd radio their mates to come at you from the other direction? Doh!

Please tell me you're joking. It would take the police 10 mins to get to your house if you were being shot at. By the time they contacted their mates you'd be gone.

I've seen it happen a few times before, was members off here in fact. Very Happy

I have twice. Both times they wanted to stop me for over enthusiastic cornering on roundabouts on my 125.

Once i was lapping the local roundabout and a traffic car came towards me with its lights going and the passenger pointing at me. I shat it and decided that half a lap (stockley sized) was enough to give me a fighting chance. Off at the next exit, round a few corners and straight into the entrance of a field. Killed the ignition, dropped the bike on the side and lay there in the long grass as the volvo screamed past. Quickly moved the bike into a better position and thanked my lucky stars. Unfortuantly the car returned and pulled up just across the road waiting for its next victim. A few minutes later the howl of a inline 600 filled the area with the scrape of knee sliders on the tarmac. Few seconds later the volvo fired up and pulled the biker. That repeated again and again as i lay in the long grass. Many hours later i decided to make a move. Most scary ride of my life, but boy was i on a high!

The other time was similar, but i out ran them in single track country roads in the dark. I quickly learnt how to slide a bike around the corners on the gravel while flicking the lights off to check for oncoming traffic!

Its not big, its not clever, but it was my choice.

You don't need a fast bike, you just need to be confident and think quick.

No and I never would. The laws are there to protect people and if I'm being a twat and get caught then it's fair do's.

People who run away only end up becoming more dangerous, reckless and irresponsible in my opinion, but that's their call.

I would just like to add, I was not recklass with my running away manouver, ok, I did speed, but I did not do anything like you see on Road Wars where they blatently put others at risk with silly risky moves.

Sorry, had to point out just in case you are all thinking that Pants bloke is a right hooligan, nothing could be further from the truth!

Cool

Probably not, far too honest!!

Also because I would be too scared of what they did to me if they caught me. I know a few people that tried in the past when I was in Italy and when they were caught the policemen have absolutely kicked the s**t out of them and sent them to hospital! Obviously they denied everything!!

Was only ever chased once, again in Italy, when pillion to my brother and the temptation to just run was very high, but .... Starting from the beginning, we were in one of the main squares in Turin city and turned left where it was forbidden, however we were in no danger and put no-one else in danger. However we did not notice a group of policemen outside a bar having a coffee and a cigarette ... and one of the guys started to run after us blowing his whistle Laughing Absolutely hilarious to watch!! Anyway we were meeting a family friend just round the corner (hence the illegal manoeuvre) and we HAD to stop!!

It turned out that the policeman also was a friend of my father (now also a very good friend of mine) and he was very kind to us ... no indicators, no mirrors, my brother wearing his helmet resting on his head ... only booked us for the illegal manoeuvre Mr. Green

I'd have to stop, my job depends on me being able to drive and staying out of court!
