I agree on the Castrol TTS fully synthetic two stroke oil it does cost a little bit more than the others but is worth it. Thumbs Up

With the chain clean it every so often with proper chain cleaning chemical stuff, or you can just use some petrol. Once you've cleaned it up let it dry off etc then put either chain lube or chain wax on it. Both are good, in different ways. Chain wax doesn't fling off as much but when it does it makes bigger splodges and is harder to clean off and shift, but they're both good and you won't have any problems as long as you use one of them every few weeks but in winter it is a better idea to do it more often and if you're doing lots of miles do it more frequently as well. When putting it on the chain just put a bit of old newspaper between the chain and wheel so as not to get any on the wheel or tyre. Try to spray it on the chain from all angles, not just from the side of the bike straight at it. If you look after the chain, or make a half hearted effort to do so Laughing then you won't have any problems and it will last a long time. Hell, the chain on my old ZX6R out lived the engine and neither had had a particularly easy life but if you put a bit of lube on the chain every few weeks your wallet will like you. Thumbs Up

My personal choice is Fuchs Silkolene Pro Chain 100% synthetic racing chain and sprocket lube. It might be a little much for a street-biased 600 but I usually tend fork over the extra buck for the high quality stuff.

You fellas got Silkolene products over there?

Yeah we do get Silkolene products, though I believe Castrol to be more popular, amongst the 2 stroke riders anyway. Smile

I always liked rock-oil fully synthetic 2-stroke, but most of my bikes have been pre-mix and my liking for that stuff is probably due to the fact that it mixes in almost instantly.

The important thing is that you NEVER run out, you could use straight 30s engine oil and the only ill effects would be that the engine cokes up a lot more quickly and burns inefficiently, your bearings would still get lubed (probably better than using hi-tech stuff as it hangs about for longer).

Most of the benefit from the more expensive 2-stroke is down to the fact that it burns efficiently in the fuel and keeps the engine cleaner (joey dunlop once won a race using petrol siphoned out of a spectators bike mixed with oil drained out of one of his forks, and that is in a works engine)

Don't clean your chain with petrol as some O' rings don't like it. They swell up & then disintegrate Shocked Use GT85 or WD40 to clean it with then lube it afterwards.

I thought WD40 bugggered up some O rings, could be wrong though Thinking Apparantly Parafin is safist for cleaning chains, or so I heard.

not much more than an sr50 or gilera dna new so in my opinion the extra was worth it for the brakes, gears, looks and handling over a normal ped
