Very interesting. Have you got one now? Bumf says it's 52cm x 36cm x 18.5 cm. is this the maximum dimension, or the size of a rectangular thing you can fit in it?


I have one. They fall apart. Zip is coming away from the body of the bag.

A hard shell backpack would seem to be as risky, or worse, than carrying hard, bulky stuff in an ordinary rucksack.

I just buy a cheapie rucksack from a luggage shop or market stall every couple of years, as for waterproofing I wrap stuff on carrier bags or bin liners. As for carrying a chain in it ... Fuck dat!

The XL Moto/Course is not really a 'hard' shell. Think of it as a stiff card, foolscap folder type stuff. Come off and it'll deform without any issue. Wouldn't buy another though. Cheap is fair enough, but the zip is single stitched on, and doesn't take much persuading to un-stitch itself.

I use a Kriega R30 backpack for carrying change of clothes, lunch, flask of coffee and a few bits, and carry my chain, disc lock and cover in a Kriega US10 tail pack strapped to the pillion seat.

I have seen some people carry a chain in their backpack but I thought this approach was safer and also allowed me to carry a heavy and more secure Pragmasis chain.

I have to say Kriega for quality. Thumbs Up

I thought they were just fashionable until I got them (25 rucksack and US-30 tailpack) they are fucking awesome pieces of kit. The rucksack has been going strong for 10 years..

I've been very happy with this Lomo Rucksack for £30

Main compartment, plus a zippable front (not sure it would take a chain though, takes a 2-3 bottles of water roughly).

Zips..its always zips that let go. They stick and get sticky. I've had a Knox for 10 years, but, I use a top box over it in the winter. Fuck kreiga prices. Make the manufacurerers do better rather than just pay silly money for brands.

i also have one of these. looks like it will last at least twice as long again as ive had it (about 4 years).

def waterproof - that's been well tested Laughing

the zip pocket likely wouldn't fit a decent chain, but as others have said - fuck that anyway...

Can wholeheartedly recommend the Kriega R35.

Bought one this summer as I wanted a rucksack that was durable and reliable as I don't fancy sticking a top box on the MT-09.

Granted it's around £180, but I have no doubt that it'll last a few years and the strap system is most definitely the highlight of this rucksack, you hardly even know its there.

And now I have read it - their best buy is Messrs Groovylee and Pigeon's £30 Lomo 30L (and that was stacked against 20 others, several of which cost well into 3 figures).

I really don't get the whole 'backpack-on-a-motorbike' thing though...!

I almost got one but I read that the bottom edge of it digs into your back when riding so I moved on.

are these just one big compartment? I've been waiting for someone to say they had one to check as I can't seem to get a peek inside anywhere.

I've had a fair sized crumpler backpack for years... it's very thickly padded for your back. loads of pockets, including a padded laptop section. chest strap. and whilst not officially waterproof... it's never let a drop of water in

Im about to order 1 for daily use, just for short trips on the wee tdr which doesnt have a rack or space for anything else.
Its in the basket as we speak, although the video shows a black version, nearerest option actually available is grey but meh, for a tenner worth a punt right?

Agreed the zips look a bit shit, but for a tenner I'm happy with the use I have got out of it.
