Blanking off radiator in winter?

If your only aim is to get better MPG this isn't going to help at all. The best thing you can do it start the bike and ride off immediately, but gently. Letting the bike idle heats up the engine obviously, but so does riding and riding does it quicker. If you just let the bike sit there idling you're using fuel but not moving anywhere, so lowering your overall MPG for the journey.

This is why cars have start/stop systems, as idling while stationary is a waste of fuel.

You are going to get worse MPG in winter and there isn't anything you can do about it, its just the nature of combustion engines.
