You do know you can pay extra voluntary tax contributions?
Nobby, be proactive, and stop with the virtue signalling. Set an example. I've been a contributor. That doesn't make me special. You're not fooling anyone but yourself.
But anyway, this isn't the thread for this discussion. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

What about those who live healthy, safe lives and are unfortunate enough to contract some illness, or are involved in a non-fault accident that leaves them in need of treatment...our NHS is tottering, is it fair for someone like me to place additional strain on it through my poor life choices?
You see, there's virtue signalling, and then there's principle. The first is pretty common, and cheap as chips. |
See, that could also be called virtue signalling.
The NHS was (and is) intended to be free at the point of delivery for all that need its services. Rich or poor, working or not. We all pay taxes and contribute at some point in our lives (OK there are exceptions to this but the principle stands) and some of those taxes go to the NHS to provide health care. Denying yourself access is your personal choice of course, but at some point that becomes a bit similar to being a self flagellating ascetic.. |

No, I disagree with that. Virtue signalling is making claims about how good you are when you don't do anything to back it up. It's about lazy words with no commitment
And I should stress, unlike the virtue signallers, I don't consider myself a wonderful person (as I'm sure you'll agree ). Unlike Nobby, I'm not pretending to be something I'm obviously not.

So it obviously isn't what I'm doing then, is it? Have you stuck that lens cap to your fucking eyes now?!

So you agree that I'm not self-flagellating*. So all of your last reply was pointless

Usual 'getting old' ailments like failing eyesight, hearing, Alanna Myles etc. Also, whilst not in the same league as others here, I have recently developed achilles tendonitis in both legs, and I have a flakey bum-crack.
I won't be bothering the NHS with either of these complaints, not out of some sense of social responsibility but rather because the chances of getting an appointment are slim indeed, and I don't fancy trying to explain a parmesan cleft on the phone. ____________________ Now - Speed Triple, old ratty GS550, GSXR750M

So the NHS that is for everyone is the same one where everyone's complaining they can't get appointments and treatment? So me, who hasn't paid NI contributions in ages and doesn't bother going to them, I am no worse off than those who are fully paid up users? (or would-be users). Someone's being had here!
Hang on a minute...didn't they just put NI contributions up? What, to pay for the service to continue to deteriorate?
You'd be surprised how much you can put up with before you crawl into your local A&E ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I was going to just say "pot, meet kettle" but it deserves more. Not that you will care, as you shall no doubt point out.
While I don't spend as much time here as I used to, you're one of the stand out names for bringing "this stuff" into a thread. A constant stream of specious argument, devil's advocate and arguing for the sake of it. Often with no real discussion and just fishing for disagreements so you can score points, or at least that's how it looks to a vaguely interested observer. |
I don't deny it
Apart from the scoring points bit. I couldn't give a fuck about that ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

I have to hold books etc about 18" away now, eyes getting older. Mild aches and stiffness first thing in the morning. I do have to be careful how I lift heavy things, back's a bit dodgy.
