And I also see you are a man after my own heart, potting acorns and getting them ready to plant out in the wild as young oaks.

I have about 6 oak trees that I grew from acorns, that are flourishing. The largest, maybe 15 years old is probably 10ft tall now, but not producing acorns as yet.

The loss rate is quite large though. Maybe 1 in 6 survive planted out, some just do not flourish because of ground conditions and the rest of the young shoots get trampled, eaten by deer or nibbled by rabbits.

Worth the effort though, they are my legacy after I get put in the oven on gas mark 10 and go whooosh up the chimney.
Maybe 60 years after I am gone, laughing children will be enjoying a rope swing hanging from one of the branches on a sunny summer afternoon.

Each mature tree provides enough oxygen for one human being to live on.
