I didn't see anything that looked like it was aimed at stimulating growth and opportunity, or at least nothing that got me excited.

I still can't get past the fact that we're paying more tax than previously, services are in decline, and the governments answer is to pay more tax. It doesn't feel like this is going to fix the problem.

Entire budget seemed to be summed up as "if youre wealthy, you should pay a little bit more and stop dodging tax" which I dont really have a problem with. Theyre not taking your wealth away, just means the super rich will carry on getting even richer slightly slower than they would have before. Wont somebody please think of the landlords , large business owners, and second home owners and get the tiny violins.

Thinking I think that's quite literaly what taxation is. You earn money through your endeavours (hard work or easy work if you can get it), government takes a chunk of it and says that's mine and I'll decide how to spend it for you.
I dislike the increased taxation and the inflationary pressures the increased spending will create.

I think the point is, none of us are going to pay any more tax because none of us are that rich. Who amongst us has a farm worth more than £1M?

You need to build a bridge. Have you got enough cash to build the bridge? Probably not, so you take out a loan.

Assess how long the bridge will take to build, how long the bridge will last, resultant benefits of the bridge, physical maintenance required, maintenance to the loan (paying it back) etc. etc. You can see how these big infrastructure projects can take on a life of their own!

On top of that you've given the project to the worst people imaginable - the government - and "really? more tax rises?!" is entirely understandable.

Find me a farm that's worth less than a million quid when you tot up the land, buildings and equipment.

(based on average farm size ~90 hectares, land @ ~£9,000 per hectare = £810,000 just for the land)

Money is at seriously stupid levels for a lot of things. I still think a hundred thousand is a huge amount of money, and it is if someone gives you that to go on a spending spree, but when you look at infrastructure it's nothing.

Eldest daughter lives on a new estate in a brand new housing association 4 bed house. The private ones the same are going for £450,000. Nearly half a million quid for a modern 4 bed shoe box on a modern horrible estate with as much greenery as mega city one.

It's bloody ridiculous.

The rhetoric about "the working person won't pay more tax" is irking me quite a lot. I suppose strictly speaking this may be broadly the case, but while many of Joe Public may draw an assumption that is the same as "my pay will be worth the same" my issue is it almost certainly won't be. Take the employers NI contribution; money has to come from somewhere. It's unlikely many (if any) organisations will use whatever margin they have as a buffer against this increase, it's more likely they'll pass the cost downstream to whatever product or service they are offering. Everyone does the same thing; prices go up. If you want to be pedantic, you could then say someone buying X pounds of goods today might end up spending a percentage more for the same this time next year, of which the govt will be likely shaving some VAT off which also would have increased in value. Add in the increased minimum wage, which granted will be welcome for those on minimum wage, but that will also push the cost of a lot of things up. Again, the money has to come from somewhere.

I have a real issue with throwing notes at the NHS; that organisation is so horrifically rotten at so many levels (I have multiple family members working in it so have insight into the waste and attitudes . . . it is almost literally unbelievable), it's the equivalent of buying more tubs of fibreglass repair to patch over a rusty car; it doesn't address the issue, it temporarily patches it but a new weak spot will emerge. I won't pretend to have an answer to that.

That can be said of any taxation.

Increase corporation tax. It won't be the dividends that get reduced. There is a choice to put it on employees and it 's not the government who makes that choice but the employers.

You say that but...

In the Rogan/Trump interview they had a discussion on life expectancy vs. healthcare expenditure. Obviously commenting on how terrible the health care outcomes are vs. cost in the US but the UK isn't doing too bad, all things considered.

Increasing employers NI just means they'll balance their books by giving employees a lower pay rise next year.

Might aswell be a tax on the working class.

VAT on private school fees I can get behind though - they aren't charities anymore. They used to have to provide a certain number of places for the smelly 'orrible poor kids but pretty sure they dont nowadays - certainly not around my area.

I have to admit maybe I went overboard when I said the government is going to take all our tax money and waste it...

...as a good chunk of it will be sent abroad for other people to squander.

Can you cite where I said "additional" please. Maybe consider reading and understanding rather than projecting and propaganding?

I'm sure I read somewhere that Labour wern't going to increase overseas aid and the charities were up in arms about it because of the amount we were spending on boat people at home. I'll look and see if I can find it but good on Labour for that if I'm correct.

Of course they would rightly get some real shit thrown at them if they increased foreign aid while stopping the winter fuel allowance for pensioners.

Edit to add --- Here you go -

‘Shameful’: Budget decision to reduce foreign aid slammed

Can't say I'm crying about it but then I'm a c**t so someone said not long ago. Laughing

Been thinking of making a farm a limited company to avoid inheritance tax. You would then be liable for corporation tax (which you wouldn't be if you were just the self employed owner of the farm.)

Obviously any remaining profit you pay yourself would either be taxed as earnings if you pay yourself a wage and dividends would be taxed as well.

Seems fair to me, thats the same basis that all the big farms are taxed on.

Swings and roundabouts with anything. You also have to not die in the next 2 years after setting up the Ltd.

Well done Kier. Winter fuel cut to put 50,000 into poverty next year

I thought you were the party of the underdogs, the unfortunates. But they are obviously not.

If they are that much in poverty then claim the pension credit that they would be due, and then they would get the wwinter fuel payment as well.

To claim pension credit and winter fuel payments that they would be due, they have to fill out a 243 question form!

Lots of people for whatever reasons don't claim what they're due.
