Reuben wishes to have a real life meeting to discuss the trip around Feburary/March time. Ovbiously we are far apart. Babyyams is very far up north and so is Nath so if everyone sort of went half way up the UK then they would not have to travel so far. Maybe at a motorway services.

Typical southerner's view of the UK. Nottingham is in the Midlands and is infact as close to London as it is to the Scotch border Razz

A meetup does sound like a good idea. February sounds good Thumbs Up

I seem to have been bullied into this by R4nger. Could be a possibility just depends on the dates as i have a trip to Ibiza around that time.

If i bring back enough stuff from thailand in may or i can pester my parents then i may have a new bike to do it on. Otherwise it will be the ZZR.

I went to Portugal last summer and is wicked over there. They have loads of bikes and stuff. Thumbs Up

I shan't be booking my ferry tickets till a couple of weeks before I'm ready to leave. I'm starting to save up the money now - Should be going onto night shifts before the end of the year, putting aside £150 a week not including any overtime or second jobs Thumbs Up

How is everyones planning going? I've checked everything out and so far have found that the costs will be around £700-£800. That's including pretty much everything. But obviously I'll be taking a reserve just in case.

I have a code for P&O Ferries which gets you return tickets for Dover - Calais from £30. I know if you book it know it's only £55 return anyway on a bike, but still it's a saving. The code is 61418, and is from the Winter issue of What Bike?

I went to the Faro Rally last year and it was an absolute blast. Cheap, strong beer, 1.20 euro a pint, more bikes than you could shake a stick at, and the same goes for all the strippers, not that you'd want to shake a stick at them Very Happy

There is a small village/resort about 2 miles from the camp site, with regular busses, and loads of space for parking up your bike. You get plenty of loonies doing all manners of stunts on the roads, but that just ends up being your entertainment as you relax with a beer on the sea front.

If you need one point of advise, then take the highest UV rated sun protection you can find. I used factor 30 this summer, and ended up in hospital being treated for sun burn, and blisters which came up all over my back, shoulders, neck and chest. I still have the scars, but I have learnt my lesson. Don't let the sun ruin a good holiday.

I have posted a few of my holiday snaps on https://www.125ccsportsbikes.com/forums//index.php?showtopic=14952. Just as a warning, not all the pictures are work safe, but the top pictures are fine.

I am definitely still in. I have sitting in my bank account the sum of £1000, which is just under a third of what I'm looking to save up for my trip this summer. Even if something terrible should happen foiling my plans of a three month European tour, I already have enough cash safely banked to go just to Faro Thumbs Up

This summer is going to be a memorable one, I can feel it Very Happy

I got quite a bit of money today, compensation from a accident a couple of years ago, which is going towards Faro. Just had to take a large chunk of it away to pay for my bike, then restrictors, insurance, but still have around £800 left, plus money I save between now and then.

Can't wait to set off. You never know, we might even bump into each other on the way, or there. If we post pictures of our bikes just before we go then it'll make spotting each other easier Razz

Bugger that Mik, I shall be collecting mobile numbers before you all go so when you get there all hot & dusty & dry from the journey I will be waiting with a nice cold drink!

Well, so we can at least arrange to meet up for a couple of beers at some point anyway!

Good idea. It usually costs from 50p-£1 just to recieve a call abroad Shocked

There is a restaurant a quick 5 min walk outside of the campsite. They do nice food and beer, so that will be my first port of call when I arrive Very Happy

If we are all arriving at Faro on the same day, it might be a good idea to meet out of town first and then enter the rally site together. It'll probably be a bit difficult to locate each other in a city crammed with bikes.

Perhaps a meet up would be a good idea, come springtime (did we mention March before? It'll probably still be too cold I reckon).

Babyyam, will you be going to the Rat+Survival show in May? My cb550 rat project is now looking fairly motorcycle-shaped and I'm now pretty sure it'll run okay, so I should be taking it to the show. The debate is whether I use it for Europe. If it runs well after putting about 500 miles on it, I think I'll probably be daring and go for it. If not then I'll have to come up with a new plan. Some would say that I'm a bit barmy either way Laughing

We may well be doing the Rat & Survival this year, yes. It usually clashes with Speedfreaks at Santa Pod but Speedfreaks isn't on this year so R&S is looking like a distinct possibility.

Apparently my bike is scruffy enough to qualify....... Laughing .... must clean it at some point this century I reckon!

Ring... Ring...

"Hello, R4nger here"
"Hello, where are you"
"In a road"
"What road?"
"A road with tarmac"
"Has it got a street name?"
"It has but I can't prenounce it"
"Oh..."

Laughing

I'll be arriving at the site on the 19th, the day before the rally. It didn't get packed till late on the first day of the rally this year. Then it just suddenly becomes sardine like crowded. I'll be taking plastic tape, like police tape, to mark out an area for my and my mates tents and bikes. It's the only way to stop people camping where your bike goes while you are out.

Mik

*EDIT* Just thought I'd add a map of the place. The actual site is a few miles from the actual city, but a 5 min walk from the airport.
