I wouldn't be hugely concerned if I thought the system would work properly, but as some have already pointed out, there are a few flaws that would probably mean the negative impact on innocent pub-goers would probably outweigh any good it might do.

I'd be a lot happier if they were installing such systems where they are needed most, like airports. We'd slice our illegal immigration in half if airports actually had a fingerprint check in to get into the country.
We have a system at work where we fingerprint every detainee and visitor who comes in the gates. It's then used for positive ID when discharging the detainee, or for checking it's visitors we are letting 'escape' from the visits hall.

Immigration take fingerprints off people when they process them, but there is no joined-up system to check that database against people coming in on flights with different passports/fake documents.

It wouldn't be a threat to anyone's human rights, because if you haven't previously been detained as an illegal immigrant, your prints won't be on the system, and will return a negative result. No record is kept of prints checked against the system - no HR infringement for genuine visitors and citizens.

Having been turned away from the main door of a club before because I had supposedly been turned away before, bollocks I was there straight from the pub, it would probably help bouncers identify folk that are regulars vs trouble makers. In glasgow there are a few 2000+ capacity clubs and it would be impossible to get rid of all the arseholes without technology like this.

Nothing to hide.

Hi

Not sure what they could check against. Suspect that the police could not legally validate the finger prints against their records. The group of clubs are going to be pretty limited on what they can do. They cannot force someone to give a print after they kick off so would (at most) just be recording punters pictures as they took their prints going into the club and then hoping that they can ID the right one when they throw them out.

That is unless they just say "sorry, you're not coming in as you were one of 500 people here last week when there was a fight" Laughing .

All the best

Keith

A few clubs around here take a picture of you and stick you on a black list. Perhaps if there was some way to use the blacklist and the ID together. Though civil liberties numpties may have something to say about it!

A friend of mine was injured by bouncers a few years ago when they ejected him from a pub convinced he was a drug dealer. He did not have any drugs on him but they reckoned he looked like some guy they knew had been dealing in their club.

Under the fingerprint system, he would then not be allowed into other places on the basis of unproven nonsense.

Ironically, he now works as a policeman and part of his work invovles investgating and getting evidence against drug dealers.

In my experience most trouble occurs outside the pubs and clubs

Club owners don't care about incidents outside their clubs.

Having been to Dublin for a girly weekend with one mate (non-smoker) (me-smoker)
i was really shocked at the fact that i saw NO VIOLENCE outside any pub/club/bar whilst having a sneaky fag on my own.
I commented on this to the bouncer and added that as a woman, 5'2 and not of a huge build, there would be no way on the planet I would DREAM of going outside on my own in Cardiff!

The bouncer (called Paul who also taught me how to say kiss my arse in Irish, bless him) explained that they used to have LOADS of trouble outside the places before the non-smoking legislation came into effect.
Now, because near enough every pub has a designated smoking area, the bouncers treat outside as if they were inside, all radio-linked to each other and always a minimum of one on every door...

I'm not saying I'm a reformed smoker or anything but maybe this could bring the answer to a lot of the violence encountered on a night on the town! Smile time will tell

Not really about whether you're a yob or not. More the fact that the owner doesn't want any scruffy feckers in.

So really its not so much yob police as style police Laughing
This is probably why I have never liked clubs

Or he wouldn't have been chucked out in the first place?

Reading town centre claims to have a system of get chucked out of one place and you won't be let in anywhere.
Standard in other places as well I think. At the mo I believe it's just done by radio between bouncers. Pretty much all town centre pubs have bouncers on Friday and Saturday nights, even the samller ones.

Don't see that adding finger prints into the situation changes the ideals, just that it's more precise.

Interesting thought, what happen's to people like me.

I rarely go to pub's and club's as it is, this will make me stop going full stop. I will not have an ID card, I'd prefer to be imprisoned first. If I do not conform to these what would happen in term's of getting credit card's, getting a mortgage, getting a job even.

I realise this is a far fetched scenario, but this over control could force many people to 'dissapear'.

Bit of a sci-fi fantasy situation but it is a possiblity should all these 'preventative' measures go through.

taking people's fingerprints in order to allow to have a drink is stupid! its not going to have any effect because alcohol is involved, and lets not mess about, when your wasted you don't really care too much and if you're going to do something you're going to do it.....

theres no need. ban the trouble makers, take their photo and stick it on a wall of shame or something. theres no need to take fingerprints. Thumbs Down
