Conclave
Very good, atmospheric with lots of big scenery inside the Vatican.
Great costumes, Isabella Rosselini as a nun is a stretch LOL but its pretty good anyway.
Worth a watch.

A sword is thrown into the leaf-mould. Balian looks up from his porridge at Godfrey, who leans on another sword.

Godfrey: Pick it up, let's see what you're made of.
Hospitaler: His hand is hurt, my lord.
Godfrey: I have fought two days with an arrow through a testicle.

Whelp! That's sufficient for me to give 10/10 to Kingdom of Heaven (2005) without seeing the rest of the film Smile

I liked that film a lot, too.

Nosferatu 5/10

i liked the portrayal of the vampire but found the rest of the cast quite mediocre. very disappointed with William Defoes performance.
and Depps daughter is just weird looking.

surprised to see a film released with an all white cast in this day and age though Shocked

Nosferatu [2024] 8.5/10 - About a Boy... boy and Kick Ass kid find themselves embroiled in a tale of Big Transylvania Cock.

I thought the acting and cinematography were great. Only thing I didn't like was I felt the super-natural element was a bit OTT early on.

It's Eggers, he did the same with The Northman (good film but predictable ending), and shitlibs were crowing when it made a financial loss. Looks like Nosferatu made $175 mil' from a $50 mil' budget.

Nosferatu 8.5/10 - To add my rating in.

Loved the cinematography. Good that they stayed with the important animal-like characteristics of Nosferatu compared to Dracula.

Best horror film for decades.

Nosferatu 9/10

Anything Eggers does is great. Cinematography was fantastic and his "take" on the story was brilliant.

The Brutalist 9.5/10

What an achievement for <$10 million. Saw it in IMAX and glad I did. Vistavision giving such a warm glow to the entire film. So many beautiful shots throughout.

Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Last viewings would have been at different times but this time I watched them back to back. Really obvious the improvement; almost unique in film making (looking at you, Fast & Furious).

By todays standards, only the janky dubbing lets these films down but you could see as a nod to the English dubs of the samurai films Sergio was <cough> inspired by.

Spaghetti westerns are my favourite genre, actually. Some of the older Django films are also amazing (to me) and one of my favourites of the lot is 'A Fistful of Dynamite' also called 'Duck, you sucker'. A Irish republican escapes prosecution for his doings in Ireland and tries to hide out, but ends up entangled in the Mexican civil war.

Another three movie marathon: Austin Powers Neutral

Unlike the "Dollars Trilogy" there's no sign of improvement. Essentially the same joke replayed over and over with the 3rd movie having noticeably more budget and less charm.

The second one did feature peak Heather Graham though...

Snow White ... it's true, it's crap ... the usual ultra expressive faces, lack lustre singing, large dance scenes ... thank god for the skip button!

The only two good parts of the movie ... when she dropped down unconscious after eating the apple and when the film ended.

Oh, the necklace, the usual Hollywood rip it off, snapping the chain and give it to someone else, which she then gets back but falls unconscious before she can put it back on, but then magically reappears on her neck miraculously intact when she's lying comatose!

Hangman - 2017.

An absolutely outstanding performance by Al Pacino. Very Happy

Last Breath - 6/10

Boring adaptation of a real event. Not enough aliens and spaceships for me. Sphere and Abyss did it better! Trouble n strife enjoyed it though. Date night successfully negotiated.

Have you seen the original 2019 "docu-drama" version of this, with the same name? Used a combination of original footage, interviews, and reconstruction, and was extraordinarily good.

Yes. I think it worked much better in that format than a feature film.

The Fugitive. Been meaning to get around to watching this film for... 20-25 years? I enjoyed it. Though made the mistake of watching 'US Marshals' last year not realising it was a carry on. Anyway, a reasonably good film I thought.

I've decided that its time I watched some MARVEL films, cos I'm a bit lacking in that department.
I don't think I've ever knowingly watched any.
(does Batman count? I've seen a couple of those, early ones)

Where's the best place for me to start?

I think DEADPOOL might be one from that stable?
I have seen that but it was quite a while ago so I could have a refresh.

/nerd:on

Batman is the DC Universe, I'll have you know!

/nerd:off

If you're on a Marvel trip, probably best to watch them in canonical order. From Rotten Tomatoes:

The Infinity Saga: Phase One (2008-2012)
Iron Man (May 2, 2008) - Bang! Robert Downey Jr. is Iron Man.
The Incredible Hulk (June 13, 2008) - Dear god, Eddy, why?! You could skip this.
Iron Man 2 (May 7, 2010) - Actually, sequels don't have to be crap.
Thor (May 6, 2011) - Hey, Chris, how ya doing? Smile
Captain America: The First Avenger (July 22, 2011) - cookie cutter origin story, solid.
The Avengers / Avengers Assemble (May 4, 2012) - Ties the whole team together and makes it a thing.

Phase Two (2013-2015) - all pretty consistent quality
Iron Man 3 (May 3, 2013)
Thor: The Dark World (November 8, 2013)
Captain America: The Winter Soldier (April 4, 2014)
Guardians of the Galaxy (August 1, 2014)
Avengers: Age of Ultron (May 1, 2015)
Ant-Man (July 17, 2015)

Phase Three (2016-2019) - only Captain Marvel lets this section down
Captain America: Civil War (May 6, 2016)
Doctor Strange (November 4, 2016)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 5, 2017)
Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7, 2017)
Thor: Ragnarok (November 3, 2017)
Black Panther (February 16, 2018)
Avengers: Infinity War (April 27, 2018)
Ant-Man and the Wasp (July 6, 2018)
Captain Marvel (March 8, 2019)
Avengers: Endgame (April 26, 2019)
Spider-Man: Far From Home (July 2, 2019)

It went off the rails from 2020 but personally I'd recommend:

Black Widow (July 9, 2021)
Spider-Man: No Way Home (December 17, 2021)
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 (May 5, 2023)
Deadpool & Wolverine (July 26, 2024)

Yeah DC Has all the bad movies except the solo Batman ones. Pretty much any of the non Reeve Superman films are terrible, as are the 'team ups'.

The first Wonder Woman is OK but falls off in the third act.

The Minecraft Movie - starring Jack Black as... Jack Black! Momoa does seem to have fun with it but the rest? You won't even remember their names after the closing credits.

Vapid, colourful enough to keep the under-10s busy but nothing for real fans Sad
