Disguise it....no.I think it`s everyones right to stand up and be proud about the things they believe in.
Be rational....yes.Just because someone may not like,or agree with another persons views,creed,etc...does that give them the right to go and (for example) beat them half to death because thats what they FEEL like doing?

What i want on BCF doesnt matter, and i wouldnt get it on a forum like this anyway......which is why i sit on the edge a lot and gaze in amazement at some of the neanderthal comments made.
I think evolution came to a halt for some of the people on this site....and thats my calm, rational, opinion.

Beat them half to death? You've started stretching a bit, if you're still trying to illustrate a perceived problem with posts on the forum.

You're never going to get a coffee with cream with all cream. And it would taste pretty shite if you did. Think of it as most for the taste with a bit for the nourishment. Kind of thang goin' on, blud, innit.

ok i`ll rephrase.Use the words abuse, insult, purposely try to offend and annoy instead of "beat to death"Mr. Green
Makes no difference though coz i suspect you`re going to say it`s ok anyway and people should get a thicker skin (or something along those lines that passes the buck onto the receiver instead of the instigator).

and using "ghetto speak" was a bad call on your part.

Oh dear, I used 'ghetto-speak'. I guess I should have anticipated that would circumvent your sense of humour. And we wonder why we keep getting these stories about xmas being banned. Rolling Eyes

My children are mixed race. I suppose I better start preparing them for the big bad world..."Any comments that might, possibly, reference mixed race...or any race actually...here's how you sulk. Then demand compensation and a change in the law, to BAN it...and go for a bit of affirmitive action too...milk that puppy for all it's worth..."

See, I saw your comment about being mixed race, then it flew completely out of my head, mainly because race, colour, it means squat to me. That's supposed to be good, isn't it? Oh dear, maybe I better read the PC manual again..."How to address a person of mixed race, acceptable humour, comments, dos and don'ts..."

Get over yourself, I'd have finished that post exactly the same regardless of your racial status.

There's too many soap-boxes flying around here!

My final words (as we're going off subject!) are that I was not expecting abuse when I came on here. If you don't want to give to charity then don't, but please don't insult those that do. At the end of the day I am taking part in a charitable event organised by the charity (and it certainly isn't to give me a summer holiday). I haven't laid down the rules; but merely joining in the spirit of them. All I would say is that if it is that easy, then rather than slate honest folk trying to do something that benefits others, sign up to it and do something positive.

I bid you farewell.

Out of interest, CLIC Sargent's accounts show :-

Quote:
Employees receiving annual gross salaries in the following range: No.
£60,001 to £70,000 2
£70,001 to £80,000 2
£80,001 to £90,000 1
£90,001 to £100,000 1

So that's a minimum of £430,000 going on just 6 people, and they employ 390.

But it's the fact that nearly 50% of people's 'donations' to charity, pay for your trip. Not towards the charity. That's stretching it a little bit.

It's not abuse, but you did not mention this in your original post, and it's a ride you will enjoy, not a challenge, so it does some like a leisurely event that is subsidized by donations for charity.

Like if you were paying the bit that went to Classical Tours, then people would have no quarms. I'm trying to be rational here, not insulting/flaming.

Charity is big business these days, hence all the frigging 'give £2 a month to save a donkey' adverts.

There have been many people post on BCF trying to get sponsered for a ride, remember Samcaplat? I'm afraid I'm with the others. It's all commendable doing something to raise money for charity, but it does get my back up when some (not the OP) are lining the pockets of the rich, as shown by Shaggy's quote. If you want to do a sponsored ride, then all proceeds should go to the charity, not funding the trip itself. That's my opinion and that's why my money goes elsewhere.

Employ 390 ? Rolling Eyes lol
The Sally Army 'employ' over 100,000 worldwide and thats on top of the 5 million volunteers.
They dont have a UK headquarters like this for nothing:

I dont think it is possible to give to a true charity nowadays (if there ever was such a thing).

Exactly. Thumbs Up

As much as people want to contribute to charitys and do the best they can...there`s not many who`ll be prepared to,or could afford to,fund the whole thing themselves out of their own pocket and give away all the proceeds.
Does that make them bad people or blaggers?..i say no..
If they were taking some of the profits aswell as their own basic costs, that would be different.
Turning charity into a profitable business is something far more "immoral" than using some of your sponsorship money to fund an event.

There's many many people that do selflessly give time and money to charity.

Quote:
Turning charity into a profitable business is something far more "immoral" than using some of your sponsorship money to fund an event.

Not sure taking advantage of this commercialisation for your own personal gain to dupe your friends into paying for your holiday is very moral either.*
Sadly it does make sense for charities to employ paid and sometimes highly paid staff and contractors.
For instance, accounts done well could save thousands or millions in various ways, yet most charities are very unlikely to be able to find someone willing to do it to that level on a voluntary basis.
I find it kind of sad that the country begrudges the people running our country a few in-office perks, when top people elsewhere are 'worth' so much more to independent organisations.
Similarly, chugger companies, I believe someone on here previously mentioned, can have top marketing people getting well over £100k, which means that they're going to have to make their company a fair bit more than that on an hourly basis. However, if the charity paying for them gets £5m in for a £1m payment, they're still probably going to be significantly better off.
I don't think the way it works is 'right', but I don't offer a solution. My personal solution is to generally only give to small charities that I'm absolutely sure are 100% volunteer and don't use expensive marketing etc. On that, they may well still, say, be making a healthy profit for a local catering equipment company, who they are getting some soup heaters, cookers and paper plates from.

Anyway, big or small, I am happy to get people to clarify where charitable money goes. In the case of the other thread, it was made clear that the money being asked by the other poster was going straight to the charity, sure it offered her some gain still (while she paid for the holiday, she couldn't go on it without the extra), she did confirm she was covering all the *costs* incurred, so *all* the donated money was going to the charity.

* This may not be what the OP believed they were doing, but if you consider it, this is effectively what they are doing and certainly is exactly what the marketing company wants.

I've used 'ghetto speak' in posts before, and a few others too. Sometimes randomly, for no particular reason, other times to make myself laugh. Or whatever. The idea that it could or would be racially motivated...lawzee me massah, you done got me aaaaall wrong!

.

Oh here we go..A smart-arse who "thinks" he`s being smart.....but still has quite a way to go until he reaches that coveted title (as is about to be proven.)

My use of the word but wasn`t used in relation to freedom of speech and it wasn`t used at the END of a sentence. It was used in the continuation of the sentence following a " Thumbs Up and some ........" .
If you care to read the rest of the sentence instead of only quoting one word in a pathetic attempt to tie it in with "freedom of speech".....you (hopefully) will see the correct context. (well... that`s if you can stop looking for an argument and actually use your brain for a minute???)

The full sentence reads "I fully support freedom of speech Thumbs Up
(thats one statement...you can see that can`t you?)

then follows on after a pause to say "......but without basic intelligence and respect for mankind it`s imposssible for some people to express themselves in a way suitable for a "debate" .

Now,as you`re obviously having reading difficulties in that challenged little brain of yours i`ll break it down for you in nice easy steps ok.Rolling Eyes ..are you sitting comfortably?...ok..i`ll begin.

The word BUT is used in the continuation of a sentence that says but without basic intelligence and respect for mankind it`s imposssible for some people to express themselves in a way suitable for a "debate"

It doesn`t imply there`s restrictions on freedom of speech and it isn`t used at the end of a sentence.

It only implies that without basic intelligence and respect for mankind it`s imposssible for some people to express themselves in a way suitable for a "debate"

You`ve just slotted yourself nicely in to the "lack of respect and lack of basic intelligence in a debate" group by (a) resorting to childish insults and (b)...not even being able to understand the format of english language and punctuation.
I suggest you take a look in the mirror....the "fool" is much closer to home than you think.

So i`ll say it again.
I fully support freedom of speech(....)BUT.....(you know the rest already).
Everyone`s entitled to say what they want, when they want, but some do it in a way that other people will listen and respond to,and others do it in a way that most will ignore.

By including the phrase "but without basic intelligence and respect for mankind it`s imposssible for some people to express themselves in a way suitable for a debate" you are dismissing what others may say as a lack of intelligence. Nice word games.

To be made as a seperate point, away from the discussion of free speech I would have agreed with you. To tack it on the end is spurious IMO, probably a crafty way to justify your superiority complex over others.
