from hearing about these gloves years ago you have to boil them to make them re-usable but then i don't know how you get them going in the first place.
there's the other non re-usable kind that you snap like a glow stick.

Inner gloves - do they provide more insulation and keep your hands warm or reduce the circulation going to your hands making them colder?

Hi

You can get gel heat packs which you reset by boiling (or sometimes in the microwave). To trigger them off there is a small metal disk inside which you click. They then get hot and harden.

They work very well. I have used them in the past, shoved down the back of gloves. You can buy them from Boots.

Only word of caution. If you boil them to reset them then trigger them off while they are still warm they can get VERY hot. The point where you find this out is when you have got your bloves in place and your hands start to get painful!

All the best

Keith

This taken from experience again Keith?
Sounds interesting these gel things, what king of price's are they?

And i'm definetly in the future be needing water proofs, well at least for my legs anyway.

Although i find being in just leathers while it rains not that bad to be honest.
Just a little cold some times Sad

Yes that is from experience. They stay warm for about 30~45 minutes. The ones I have used were about 2" x 3". Think they are about £5 from Boots. Biggest problem I had with them is sticking them in a pan of water to boil them (reseting them) then getting distracted. Pan boils dry and the heat packs are wrecked.

All the best

Keith

So what do they actually look like?
kind of like a sachet of sauce or something.

Sounds like a good cheap buy really.

Especially if they last 40 odd mins.

Just by a couple and keep swapping them over every now and then. Better than sticking my hands down into the engine...lol.
Warm damnit warm!

Hi

Yes, they look like a large sauce packet, but are normally clear.

They are hot for about 15 minutes and quite warm for 15~30 minutes after that.

All the best

Keith

Or you could just stop being wusses and ride your bike, if your that scared of the cold then buy a fecking car and watch us not wimpish people overtake you and and, well, i can't be bothered with electrics and stuff, my ped came with heated grips (the wires had been cut cos the standard ones have a 5 metre extension cable it looks like when you see them)if i was that bothered i could just get that fixed for 30 quid.

Ever heard of 'wind chill factor' ?

The temperature decreases dramatically as the wind speed increases. Not really a problem on a ped, in my experience. Sadly, my chart only goes up to 60mph, but I'm sure you get the jist. And note the frostbite times.

Yes, but how often do you ride in the nude?

Suspect clothing delays the frost bite by quite some time.

All the best

No, too nobbin cold.

That and the glue on the tank pad can lead to painful exfoliation.

All the best

My god, so much worry over a pair of heated grips. I bought my Hothands last year, fitted them to the Blade directly to the battery terminals and the switch to the fairing brace by the front yolk and used them all winter. No problems, no over heating, no melting my splicing flange gasket, no flat battery, no forgetting to turn them off, no kids messing with them, no degree in electronics, just as they say on the tin, Hothands.

Stop worrying and just fit the feckers, use them, worship the nice warm glowing heat they emit and ride ya bike. Wink

Remember, that is the temperature in Farenheit.

40 Farenheit is 4.44 Celcius.

-45 Farenheit is -42.78 Celcius.

Have fun with https://www.athropolis.com/popup/c-temp2.htm

In a nutshell, it's easy to get into sub zero figures when riding at any decent speed in the winter. Extremities lose heat the fastest, and unlike hill walking, we need to still be able to move our hands.
