That 700 is awesome. Infact. I'd even go as far as considering trading my SMC up for one of those, so long as it came with a Guaranteed supply of spares which wouldn't take weeks to arrive.

What am I talking about! No way would i part ex. Mine is the Bestest...Plug Plug etc. any excuse for Shamless pic whorery:

I must admit to having fun on whatever bike I choose to ride.If I want to go fast,I will ride the R1.If I want to get dirty and fast,I will ride the KTM.

But for back road tarmac fun where the R1 would be a bit OTT,I prefer the XR-SM

i love my own supermoto, a Honda ( not from Victor Devine haha ) its been 100% reliable - and i dont know how or why lol

crm250ar - the last of the crm brought into uk before they stopped them due emissions.

lovely bike to just bimble to the shops on, or to tear down the country roads - does both equally as well when im riding it.

comfy solo or with a pillion if you dont mind being friendly haha

not economical - the prius is available for economy transport.

but smells lovely as do my clothes after a ride and they dont go straight into the washer.

strawberry flavour is available as an option but so far iv resisted.

im prolly the only person on here that loves this bike as much as i do lol - but i dont care, coz im uber happy with it and its never going to be for sale!.

It's a 2 stroke supermoto so it's automatically mega cool Thumbs Up (this excludes 50's aka John Connor bikes).

It is dead sexuhal! But aprilia reliability has always been a sway point for me.
That, coupled with the heavy twin engine and the single sided shock which I'm really not to keen on aesthetically, deterred me from its street focused brother:

I'd also argue that it's more hypermoto than super and somehow this makes it less cool.

Can someone give me a brief description what makes a bike a supermoto, and the differences between one and a hypermoto?

So much to learn.

my take on it :-

supermoto is an off road / dual purpose machine, single cylinder 400-600cc fitted with road wheels , Tyres and often uprated braking system to give it road going characteristics.

Hypermoto, on road machine fitted with minimal plastics and wide bars to give it an off road style usually larger 600cc+ and with 2 cylinders.

Supermoto is a motocross bike that's for road use. It's engine will be highly tuned (competition spec), it'll have sorted suspension and brakes, it's lightweight, etc etc.

They're not just an enduro bike with a set of road wheels and/or tyres. They're not some relatively heavy bike that isn't super. They're not the above XR.

Remember modern enduro bikes are often incredibly similar to motocross bikes - for instance often the the KTM SX is motocross, the XC is short-course enduro with the same suspension and gearbox configuration as the SX. The EXC is enduro and changes to a different (lower) spec suspension, but that's also set up softer to account for the terrain (and that you'll be riding for 3 hours+, not 30 minutes) as well as a wider ratio gear box to account for both tight steep trials stuff and flat out across fields and the like.
They do tend to go up in weight across those - but only for the extra stuff like lights and stands added - so motocross or pure enduro doesn't really make much difference.
Some years it does work differently - I think the 4 stroke 350s have a linkage shock for motocross but no linkage for enduro.

So, I'd just say a competition bike with road wheels.
And yes the XR was a competition bike, but I wouldn't consider it really that 'super'.
For stuff like the XT660 which is horrendously heavy and slow, I tend to describe them as a 'commutermoto' - because it's certainly not very 'super'!

As well as being bigger twins, hypermotos typically I'd say have to look the part too - otherwise you'd also include plenty of adventure-styled bikes with road size wheels.

100kg at least is reasonably 'super', I'd say - it's still got more power than a DRZ, but the DRZ has maybe 40% more weight!

Current gearing probably puts me at a major disadvantage Laughing I really think the top speed is about 55 at the minute. Need to work out decent road gearing for 17 inch wheels. Sad

It depends what for - for a kart track that might be ideal, especially one that was actually setup for 'supermoto' (with dirt jumps and so on as well).

Think I often started in second on the 200, as mine was fairly low geared too.

Did you ever adjust the PV?

Nope.

I did spend a while looking at the options.

Forget what PV options there were for the 2004. I know it's generally different springs to adjust when it comes on - some models coming with the springs when you buy them new.

It also seems that it may depend on the year - some years they were setup with a more aggressive hit than others.

Only found the 'hit' a problem when knackered - great fun the rest of the time.

I'm gonna give it a ride when I get time this weekend. Get a photo of the "squad" while im there for novelty purposes.

The PV looks to be adjustable quite freely so no strip down or anything, a single spanner Cool
