"One of the rarest items from the Supreme archives is their infamous collaboration with the
independent American bicycle manufacturer Brooklyn Machine Works.
In 1998 Supreme founder James Jebbia commissioned Brooklyn Machine Works to produce a bespoke version of their 24” hardtail BMX cruiser bike.
Each of the 36 bikes were hand made in Brooklyn and featured Supreme branding on the frame, alongside Supreme engraving on the forks, stem and brake booster. There were two different versions of the bike - one with high spec parts and one with mid range parts. This particular bike is the high spec version including premium components from Odyssey, Crupi, Profile, Chris King, Tioga and Araya.
Jebbia gifted bikes to senior store employees who were working at the four Supreme stores in New York, Tokyo, Osaka and Fukuoka at the time. These bikes came with a choice of red, black, white, blue or yellow paint finishes, and were never sold to the public.
This white version of the Supreme/BMW cruiser was once owned by friend of the brand Eric Clapton when he was living in New York. When Clapton moved back to London, he gifted this bike to the manager of the Kings Road streetwear boutique ‘Fly’, who has been its sole owner since then."

Yeah spotted that - a number of the lots are bikes 'flipped' from HJ Pugh's big auction in February. Needless to say the Silverstone Auctions reserve prices are double in some cases of the last sale ..

As with all these things, a substantial part of it's value is in the fact it's unregistered and, to all intents and purposes, brand new; my gut reaction was that by registering it and using it, you would probably halve it's value.
I wouldn't mind betting that will go over guide and a very quick scout round the net suggests a normally used one goes for £30-40K, so my gut is about right.
The problem with true collector's pieces is they are only original once, the moment you mess with them, the intrinsic worth plummets.
I've dealt with a lot of classic cars in my time and one I remember was an extraordinarily original MkI Stag, 1 owner and 12K on the clock, but the paint had oxidised beyond the point of any kind of remedial action.
The customer wanted close to the top end of what Stags were worth then and it could probably have made that value to the right person, but most people would want it to look like it's provenance, except that a bare metal repaint would have made it worth less.
To maintain it's value, that Honda needs to go back into a collection and stay there forever and, although seeing stuff like that is a talking point, I think vehicles are made to be used, I would never have any interest in owning anything like it.

Hmm, all of them.
I've only got a few rules for project bikes myself, although everyone's different:
1) Has to be something I would want to ride, myself. This means, even if it's an enduro or ex-mil or Soviet wonder, it has to be road legal or with the potential to be road legal, plus it has to have the power to keep up with traffic on modern roads, at road legal speeds. 250cc +, if 4-stroke.
2) Not too big - I've come to realise I might have a bit more upper body strength than average people, but still, hauling a 4-cylinder 550 or 600 engine up onto the bench and down again, and then putting it back in the frame, is no fun. Likewise any big capacity (750cc +) engine.
3) Also on the 4-cylinder theme: just not too hot on them, personally. That's unless they're on my inner 12 year old's list... Been there, done that. Chasing down vacuum leaks, balancing a bank of carbs, taking them off and putting them back on again - the bike would have to be something special for me personally to get another 4-cylinder bike as a project.
4) Has to be Japanese. I don't want trouble. That's unless it's a Ural or Dniepr. Or Jupiter...
5) I make 2 budgets: one for the project bike itself (which I set when I look at it), and another to make it right. I stick to the first one rigidly. |

I watched the whole of the last Pugh auction as there was one lot I was interested in. Anything that runs or nearly runs seems to fetch good money - I suspect it's dealers replenishing stocks (the lot I was interested in has now shown up at Silverstone auctions... as a quick flip) Anything that might require more than a few hours work might go for a decent price - unless of course its Brough or Vincent or MV exotica..

I've always had a bit of a thing for Aerial Arrows, but I reckon owning one would stop being fun quite quickly.
I do like the look of the GS1000, but my money would go on the GT750, something I've been hankering after for many years and that looks a very usable example.

I've owned 3 of the bikes on that page
Tiger Cub, Arrow and Thunderbird
Feckin years ago tho' before they were classics and horribly expensive
I'd only have the Thunderbird again if I could get it for the price I paid back then and even then only out of nostalgia.
I reckon a lot of 'classic' bike ownership is bollox
You daren't ride them lest you devalue them
If you do, you realise how shite most of them are compared to modern bikes and may wonder what exactly you got for
all that money you paid.

That's honestly the most interesting looking "classic" I've seen in ages. I love the streamliner look. And check out that underseat storage! It'll be horrific being front wheel drive, all the weight over the front wheel and no front suspension, but still, I love something a bit different.

In order of merit, the CB1100R (which seems suspiciously cheap) the blue 350LC and the red/white GS1000S.
I could and would use all of those, but it would be interesting to own them all and see which one I put the most miles on - I'm suspecting it would be the LC
