Erm, if the military overthrow the government and her maj is head of the army, that would be a military junta... |
If the head of state, in our case that being the Queen, was in command, it wouldn't be. Look up the word "junta". Technical point, but might as well get it right.
If otoh a military officer was in sole command taking no orders from the Queen, then you'd be right. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Even that term I think would be a little shaky in such an instance. True, the government is democratically elected, but the Queen is still the head of state, elected or not. If she commanded the military to overthrow Parliament and they willingly obeyed...not sure quite what the correct terminology would be. It's probably something that could be argued about ad infinitum and never resolved. I think the UK is a little unique in this regard. We are, after all, the country that pioneered the Parliamentary democracy form of government. I guess that gives us a right to decide what to call such things ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
