That's a bit overly simplistic. It's very easy to say someone's too thick to chime in on weighty topics like "shall we send troops to Ukraine?" (vast number of implications, complications, etc.) Peoples' interest may be narrow but they shouldn't be discounted.
For example, the objectionable Northerner on YouTube started a GoFundMe to buy one of Del Boy's project bikes. Loads of people chipped in (to the tune of over five grand) just for a larf. Unfortunately the auction listing got pulled so what now with the money? "Have a vote on it!" Great but who get's to vote? Not the people in the live chat who never chipped in of course. Then what about the guy who chipped in £400, doesn't he get a bigger say in where the money goes than someone who donated £4?! And so on. Wow... so that all went sideways very quickly
For a truly fair and representative democracy we'd need people
a) invested in the system they're voting in
b) given power proportional to their investment and
c) someone to head it all up i.e. politicians to actually represent these interests (and not their own or their mate's)
We aren't even close on any of those points! Even so what is the above but the corporate structure of most companies. And how do companies generally treat their subjects/employees? (Looking at you, Amazon.)
So it goes back to Churchill: it's terrible but it's the least terrible compared to everything else that's been tried (so far.) ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

Let's start with something simple, true or false: the 20 th Century tested both Left and Right political systems to the extreme.
Can we agree on that? |
And both extremes end up being fascism. How about we have a go at just democracy and the rather dull compromise of social-capitalism? |

I think the central delusion is "we're so socially advanced, so progressive, we learned soooo much in the post-war period [Swinging '60s] and that's why the World is getting better. Don't stop now! Keep going towards Utopia"
While the reality is technological progress is what has catapulted us forward despite the social damage we've endured over the last 50 years or so. ____________________ Husqvarna Vitpilen 401, Yamaha XSR700, Honda Rebel, Yamaha DT175, Suzuki SV650 (loan) Fazer 600, Keeway Superlight 125, 50cc turd scooter |

I wonder whether the 168 students from Huddersfield Pretend University will still be cheerleaders for illegal immigrants now that they've effectively been evicted in order to house some of the fuckers!

No 'Plan B'
My Plan A was (and still is) MTBs and Type 45 Destroyers.
It's a plan that ticks too many social/political boxes to be ignored.
1) It gives our British Navy sailors and marines quality training in 'Real life' situations.
(Similar to RAF Air Sea Rescue. Its not a great fiscal hardship to use expensive system to search for and rescue whankers. As its seen as priceless practice for operating in time of conflict.)
2) Our wonderful navy vessels would not simply be tied to a quayside or steaming up and down costal waters collecting seagull shite.
3) The British tax payers see their Taxes put to good use.
4) The 'Boat People' will save a lot of money and be spared much suffering, as use of live ammo will work 100% to curb and ultimately discourage their seaborne adventure across the English Channel. (*)
5) We avoid the diplomatic quagmire involved in sending Illegals to a foreign country (at the tax payer's expense.)
* Disband the RNLA while we're at it. Those silly fukers have been 'enablers' by picking up survivors from burst dinghies.
They lifeboats should be fitted with guns (30mm canons) and crews re-trained on what's what. UK government will pay for the fuel if receipts are submitted after any successful engagement. ____________________ Disclaimer: The comments above may be predicted text and not necessarily the opinion of MCN. |
