How would you deal with a... how shall I put it, harsh(ish) work colleague who makes comments you don't like?

This colleague is male, works with me, and keeps saying things that don't really hurt my feelings, but when it is constant...

These comments are mainly about my weight
I am 10ish stone, not big, but not tiny framed

I have a photo on my desk of myself and family on holiday last year, I am in a bikini, and look quite nice (I think)
I keep it to remind me of a fab holiday, and why the hell I work!
He has asked me why on earth I keep that on my desk,.. as a reminder that I have.. 'put a lot of weight on since then'? (I am about 5/6 pounds heavier than last August)
I feel guilty eating a cake in front of him because he comments

I know it is stupid to take onboard these comments, but as I have said, daily..they tend to plant seeds into your head

My OH has told me to ignore him, that he is arrogant etc.. (colleague IS rather full of himself. He reckons wives should be 'submissive', and his wife... 'is onto a good thing with him etc..) Rolling Eyes Laughing
All I can do is laugh

I bite my tongue daily, ...don't want him to see that his jibes irritate me
What can I do to him that would make my day?

Cheers Karma

He's taking the piss out of you because he is uncomfortable with himself and feels the need to take a hit at your self esteem.

I had a similar bad feeling with someone in my old office, and I confessed to my boss and she told me to have words. So I took said person into an office, did the big confrontation bit, but it didnt work out at all.
So after that, I just had to pretend they didnt exist, completely ignore them..its doable. Its just hard, at first.

If this is you (sorry WTD your link doesn't work for me) then I definitely wouldn't worry Drooling Laughing.

He either fancies you, or is just a cock. When he insults you retaliate with an insult about how small his penis is. He'll pretend it doesn't bother him, but he'll soon fuck off after a while. Thumbs Up

If it continues then you are perfectly within your rights to speak to your boss about the harassment you are getting from this colleague of yours.

He sounds like a complete twit... and he probably secretly perves at the photo of you in your bikini when you're not at your desk Wink

Oh..and don't get me wrong..this photo is not 'pervy' (and I know this is not what u meant at all!)
I am sitting down in a water ring in a Florida water park..not stood up flaunting it, etc...

But you could be right.. he brags daily about himself and his young wife...
for all I know he could be having difficulties
Who knows...

Those who brag are normally the ones who aren't 100% happy with themselves or their situation...

Beat me to it Thumbs Up. I'd bet large sums of money he's bragging to hide the truth.

I think that in order to correctly weigh the relative merits of both his and your arguments, we should have a look at this bikini photo - purely for research purposes you understand?

Quite frankly Jodie, it sounds like this guy is a Grade-A, cast iron, 2 clips tosser. How you've managed to avoid asking him if he'd mind awfully fucking off, I don't know - you must be a saint!

Next time he opens his cultist trap, tell him you aren't interested in his comments about your personal life or appearance, and any recurrence will result in a written grievance against him.

Personally, I think a quick knee in the nadgers might get your point across a little quicker, but the choice is yours!

He fancies you. Next time he says something a retaliatory comment along the lines of "Listen cockhead will you just fuck off" will probably do the trick.

Chances are he probably doesn't realise that he's upsetting you, he probably thinks he's being hilarious and that you think he's a funny guy you love to hate.

Just take his to one side and say 'I do not appreciate the derogatory comments towards me, I know you may think your being funny but i find some of the things you say genuinly offensive so please can you stop.'

And if he's truely an asshole and continues after that just crack some jokes about his wife being half his age. Next time he insults you just look at him with a straight face and say..

'Oh look at the time, don't you have to go and pick your girlfriend up from school about now?'

Or you could joke that she's a mail order bride and start calling him 'Mr Dudwee' Very Happy

Well ah think you have a lovely erse hen. Laughing
5-6 lbs over could be woked off you with a wee bit more washing and ironing. Razz Karma
I would need to take in washing. Embarassed

This idiot must be jealous.
He doesn't like you and you could have him for harasment.
You could go it alone and take him on.
But it risks the other wallies at work not backing you up cause "Well we don't want to cause any trouble." etc.

Is there not any way you could connect his desk to a mains outlet?

Say to him, hey dick-head only people with low self esteem shout there mouth of about other peoples, “What you call inadequacies” when the fact is all you are really doing is hiding your own inadequacies,

Just by looking at you, I can see why you feel that way, it’s not as if you’re a looker, and there is a strong possibility that you pack a small under used pecker (pecker be very apt for you) encased in you’re trousers, so grow some ball and fuck off

You small minded small endowed cock (see what I did there)

And as it happens I can look in the mirror and feel very comfortable with my Reflection, can you

It's all been said above really, he's just a knobber.

Personally I wouldn't tell him to stick it, as it will aggravate the situation and he'll have the satisfaction of thinking he's gotten to you. But next time he makes a snide little comment, let him quietly and politely know that it's not appreciated and it's unwarranted. You're sure he didn't mean to come across the wrong way and he was just having a dig, but could he refrain from continuing to do so because it's not professional.

Of course, all the way through you'd be thinking 'Tosser. Tosser. Tosser.' but that's not the point. He'll get the message and he won't feel good about it. Either that or he'll keep doing it, at which point take it to the management. Thumbs Up

I think people are missing the point. JodieWodie may weigh 5 or 55 stone, but this guy has no right to provoke others or piss them off because of a weight issue. I would talk to him, making him understand that we all fail to live up to expectations in one way or another, including him, and it is simply polite to be accepting of what you see as other people's faults, as long as they don't seriously affect you. I imagine your decision to have a bloody slice of cake shouldn't affect him too badly. Don't give this guy a chance to get to you -- tell him to stop harassing you (or breaking your balls, if you prefer) now.

I think this needs a poll:

do you:
A) Pull out your nine and bust a cap in his ass

B) Show him your baps

C) Threaten to tell the management

D) Kick him in the nuts

E) Tell Management *and* kick him in the nuts

I know which one I'd go for! Smile

Oh yes he does...! He probably despises you for being at the same level as him and you being a 'girly' and 'all that'....he is probably a misogynist and by goading you, taking out his frustrations on you. The best way of dealing with someone like him is to tell him that you are fed up with these comments and that you'll go to your supervisor to make a sexual harrasement complaint - he'll laugh in your face - saying "prove it" - have a portable voice recorder to hand & just show it to him. Alternatively get a male friend to have a word with him as he leaves work one day.

For Jodie: what he's saying to you is harassment, and if he continues after bringing it to his attention you don't appreciate it, you should report him.
